December 15th
We drove our '61 Corvair through a few
showers on our way out today, Steve Mc would be coming out a little
later, the rain was heavy at his house. Gary was at the Gate welcoming
everyone. Bratt was at her registration station across from the hunted
House. The Brick Streets looked so good in their Christmas decorations.
There weren't too many cars on "Trophy Row" as we made our way to Block
4, Roger & Sue had their 70 1/2 Camaro parked just where they liked it
on Block 3, Bill had his '55 Chevy there as well.
Linda & I were the only ones on the Block
for over an hour, Joe stopped by for a chat, Steve called to say he
would be out in about an hour, the rain had let up. Graham, G4HFG, from
Oldham, England checked in early to see if the day had started off on a
good note. Bill & Doris stopped by just about the time Allan stopped for
a chat. Allan passed the news along to me that this newsletter has named
the "Official publication of the Friday Nite Cruise", details to follow
in up coming weeks. Thank you to Bill & Doris for their faithful
reporting and hope they continue to keep up the good work. Thank you to
Old Town for their support and encouragement.
Linda & I headed to dinner a little early,
so that we could visit with the Cruisers that were in "Town". James was
now parked by Roger, Shane was there in his '57 Chevy. None of the
regular "Loonies" were in the bin but many of the "Red Line Rodders"
were in place by John's "Double Nickel Express", Bob & Marge were in
their '41 Buick. Karen & the Kid's were at their favorite spot and Ralph
was in place under the stairs. By now Steve Mc had his '29 Model A
parked in a spot next to our car but not until after he let the herd of
'59 Edsels in to Block 4. He caught up with us and we made our way to
"Flippers" to eat. Jane was there and glad to see us. While we were
there Ted, KE4TTE called on the radio to say that he wouldn't make
dinner but would join us afterwards. Then I spotted Bob & Marje B in
their '71 Black Z-28 out for the first time since May, now that a little
cosmetic surgery had been done it looked new once again. Nick was
following him in the '32 5 Window coupe. Then Don was spotted in his 350
powered '64 Rambler American convertible.
On our walk back down to the cars a few
more "Regulars" were in place. Dave was in the Carport with his Mustang.
John B was out in his 'Vette. Richard was set up in the Mike Kelly's
booth. Vic was seen running around taking care business. The spectator
crowd was building nicely. Yet another little shower would drive a few
Cruisers away. Ted, KE4TTE, would bring his chair over to set with us,
he was humbled by the many people that asked "Where were you last
night?" The "Friday" family that he now belongs to, missed him. After
the last shower Bob, Nick and Mark were spotted making their way back to
Block 4. Mark didn't even bring over the T-Bucket but he wouldn't miss a
Saturday night. He is still on the look out for something "Louder".
Maybe a vintage Gasser. The rest of the night was spent as usual. Steve
Mc visited with his friends, that were made right here at Old Town, from
Germany for a while. We all answered the many questions that were asked
about our cars and visited with fellow Cruisers. Graham checked in again
to see how the night went.
Nikki stopped by with the "Flag Winners"
just after 8:20. Mike Colletta in his '61 Corvette, December's "Cruiser
of the Month" would be led to Block 4, that becomes the staging area at this
time, by Bratt, Gary, Dave & Lee.
Followed by the rest of the
cars from the top 3 blocks. By now Allan was in the Blue Room and got word that we were ready to Cruise, he then
gave the safety announcements, played the National Anthem, "Wolfman Jack" proclaimed, "It's the
Saturday Nite Cruise", right on time, for this the
912th running of this tradition. Bratt & Lee escorted the '61 Corvette driven by Mike, followed by Mark in his Corvette and Ken
& Charlene in their Camaro. Then the rest of the 116 cars,
rolled up the bricks of "Deac Hundley Avenue",
delighting a large crowd of spectators. "Rain or Shine" every Saturday
night of the year, there is nothing quite like it for the "Cruisers",
especially during the Christmas season, it is always a treat for those watching it from
the sidewalks and boulevards.
Thank you Old Town for letting us, the
curators of this "Rolling Display of Automotive History", the cars that
are the "Stars", to be their guests this evening. Thank you to the Old
Town Merchants Association and the Sponsors of this event, "Valvoline",
the "General Store", the "A&W", "Tags With Class", "Wound and Around", Pepsi, Roberts Brothers,
Race Depot & "Flippers" just to
name a few. Thank you to, Allan, Joe, Ron, Lee, Bratt, Gary, Shawn, Nikki and the entire Cruise Staff and fellow Cruisers for
making this our 264th consecutive Saturday a fun and
safe one. Mike Singer, Get Well! We all miss you.
On to the Flag Winners...

Checkered Flag" along with $25 cash, A Case of Oil from Valvoline and a drink from the
Tropical Breeze.
Congratulations to the Checkered Flag Winners!
