July 14th

It was said that there was 60% chance of rain for today, that didn't dampen the spirits of the the "Regulars" that meet at the "Top of the Hill". Tony & Sharon, back from their vacation would be the second to arrive in "Lucy" the '69 Ranchero. Linda * I were in "Elvira" our '60 Ranchero, the first time out for her since April. Steve Mc, in his '41 Willys Pickup along with Mike, N4HHA, and Kristen, in the '64 Corvair convertible would catch up with us on the Parkway. The skies were getting a little darker to the North, I guess the "Sea Breeze Thunderstorms" were going to give us a normal "Summer Shower". We would be in place before they would arrive so it would be a good day for us.

Gary greeted us at the Gate, Bratt was in her usual "Registration Point", she had a little bad and good news for us. Her sister, Wife to Dave and Mother to Nikki & Mesha, was rushed to the hospital just after the closing ceremonies last night. The good news is that she is doing Great! Get Well, Esther! On the lighter side, it is speculated that it was the shock about the news of Bratt's engagement last night that was the cause or was it over excitement? Congratulations Bratt.

We made our turn at the clock to make our way to block 4 of "Trophy Row", "Big John" was back in town and had his GT350 parked right were he likes it. Roger & Sue along with Bill were in their favorite spot under the overhang at the bottom of Block 3. Gary & Kathy's Fairlane was across from them as usual.

Our 4 cars were in place by 1:45, ready for the day in our "Home Town". Ready to meet up with all of our friends, Cruiser, Staff and spectators. Joe stopped by to get his newsletter and have a chat. Allan made his way down too see us all before it got to busy. Ed & Evelyn arrived shortly after in their '63 Corvair convertible. Today they would have Michele and Dustin, grandchildren that will be with them for a few weeks. Michelle had Cruised with us all last year. This is always a lot of fun when some of us have the grand kids out. The day was starting slowly, I knew we would have more of our F.A.C.A.C.A. regulars out to join us. It looked like they were going to have a "wait and see" attitude about whether or not it was going to rain. We all caught up with the adventures that were had over the last few weeks. Instead of making a separate trip to drop of the newsletters Linda & I waited until about 3:30 to do so. We would meet up with those that would join us for lunch at "Flippers". There are a lot of regulars on vacation this month so the car count was a bit lower than last week. We did spot many of the "Red Line Rodders" in place, John had his Black and Silver Nova wagon where we usually see the "Double Nickel". Darrell had his '66 Galaxie right where he likes it. Mark & Mike were in place in their Corvettes. Ken was not coming out or was he? (he didn't). Emil was in place with his "Fat Fendered Ford", last week it was a comedy of errors. He had to get some work done and his Cell phone was off and the house phone was out of service. Shane was next to him in the '57 Chevy. We saw Bert & "Ernie" roll past us on "Deac Hundley Ave" in their new Saturday night car, a '66 Mercury Comet Voyager, welcome back! Gary in "Remember When" his '55 Chevy made his way to block 4 with his bother, Buck and his grandson Wayne.

Linda & I arrived a little early at "Flippers", Jane came out to take our order and we had her wait a few moments. Ted, KE4TTE, called to say he wouldn't be meeting up with us, He was very busy ridding homes of the "Heat Monster". Tony & Sharon along with Mike & Kristen made their way to the table. We had our rain shower while we ate on the Patio, most of the "Early Regulars" including Mark, his last Saturday with out son Beau, and Dave went in to eat. "Big John" and Bob were already inside. Jane took good care of us, as usual. We had a leisurely meal then we all split up to head back to the cars. Linda was seeking out her next "Victim" for the series she is writing on the "People that make us feel At Home".

Ron H. was spotted talking with Darrell by the bleachers across form the stage. Linda took her opportunity to get the interview with him. I went to find Mike Singer. Mark found me on the corner, he didn't make it last week because he had 6 flat tires on the way. It took from 5:00 PM to 3:00 AM to get it fixed up. There were several other cars that also had tire problems. It looked like several boxes of roofing nails were strewn across I4. I found Mike Singer making his way to "Old Town Radio" after we had left the corner. We stopped to look over Bert's new Cruiser. There were a few more cars in place on the way down. The spectator crowd had grown faster then the car count. Allan was at his post at the "Point", the Cruise News booth was open. I met Scout, their Cruiser dog and chatted a bit with Michael.

When we got back to the cars, Fran, Ashley and Daniel were waiting for Nick & Stacy, in the '32 Coupe. Bob & Marge were traveling in convoy in their '71 Camaro. There had been a minor mechanical problem that was taken care of on the side of the road. They parked across from us. Mark joined in next to them. Everything was in place for another "Hot Summer Night". Roberta had the "Beer Tent" at the ready. Steve Mc's better half, Cheryl, stopped to visit with all. Wanda drove Taylor & Aubrey to join Gary. It would be a family night for sure.  "Doc" & Suzanne, "The Newly Weds" that ran off to Vegas last week end, parked the "Tater Truck" just down from the other Hot Rods.

I spotted this little guy in his "Winner" pit crew jumper. Hayden is just a little over a year old, he has the walking thing down very well. Now it is time for wheels. He just loves big tires and wheels. He found the mother load on "Trophy Row". He was being escorted by his mother Chris to all of the good ones. He kept coming back to Hot Rods owned by Nick and Mark. parked side by side he could really investigate them properly. He liked them so much he kept coming back. Cruiser in training or a "Pit Crew Chief" for sure. Keep coming to Old Town, Hayden. Rodger found a spot just down from us in his '53 MG. He had been visiting in New Jersey for the last 6 weeks or so. Good to have you back. The rest of the night was split between looking at the cars and visiting with all that stopped by. "NAPA Bob", N4RDS and family stopped by. Graham, G4HFG, checked in via Ham radio from Manchester, England for his usual "Color Report" of tonight's Cruise. Chris, KE4DUJ, & Michelle, KE4DQH, stopped by and would ride in the parade with Mike, N4HHA, and Kristen in the Corvair.

Nikki  stopped by with the "Flag Winners" just after 8:00. The "Cruiser of the Month", Dave Lowe in his '67 Plymouth was being led to block 4, that becomes the staging area at this time, by Bratt, Lee & Dave. Followed by the rest of the cars from the top 3 blocks. Mike Singer, that had been playing his usual mix of nostalgic music and jingles got word that we were ready to Cruise so he gave the safety announcements, played the National Anthem, "Wolfman Jack" proclaimed, "It's the Saturday Nite Cruise", right on time, for this the 890th running of this tradition, the cars then hit the bricks of "Deac Hundley Avenue", led off by Osceola Counties, Finest, delighting the very  large crowd of spectators. There would be a total of 138 cars rolling by them on this Hot Summer Night.

Thank you Old Town for letting us, the curators of this "Rolling Display of Automotive History", the cars that are the "Stars", to be their guests this evening. Thank you to the Old Town Merchants Association and the Sponsors of this event, Valvoline, Tag With Class, Wound and Around" & the A&W to name a few. Thank you to Allan, Joe, Gary, Lee, Bratt, Kathy, Nikki, Ben, along with the entire Cruise Staff and our fellow Cruisers for making this our 242nd consecutive Saturday a fun and safe one.

Esther, Get Well! We are all pulling for you.

On to the Flag Winners...
