April 14th
What a beautiful day! Today Mike, N4HHA in
his Monza convertible would meet Linda, K4EIO and me , K4SLB, at Tony,
K4AVD, & Sharon's, WB4ACE, to look at the paint job on his '62 Monza
coupe. Steve, K4SKM, is still on a special assignment so he hasn't been
out for while. It's little, It's Yellow! They should be bringing
it out in a few weeks once it has been rubbed out and re assembled. We
headed out from their house to 192 to make our way to Old Town for our
day. On the way our little caravan passed and waived at the '23 Chevy
Coupe that was chugging down the center lane. Ron greeted us at the gate as usual. The "Treasure Coast Car Club"
had several cars lining the bricks on the West side. Bratt met us at her
regular spot for registration. With the smile we have become accustomed
to. We turned at the clock past the Cruise office to "Trophy Row".
Richard was at the corner with Gary, Mike led us to Block 4 for our
favorite spot. We put him in the middle, the Corvair filling for the
"Ranchero Sandwich", so to speak.
We stayed in Block 4 instead of delivering
the newsletters tonight. We chose to leave a little early for lunch, I
seemed to have messed up my knee over the last week working on
replacing the shed in our backyard and I was trying to cut down on
walking a bit tonight. We had many spectators very early tonight. Mark,
the keeper of that "Ground shaking, window rattling, monster of a '66
Pro Street Nova SS, "T-Rex", stopped for a visit. Dan Z
was a passenger in Ron's '37 Ford Ragtop today. Ann had the "Beer Truck"
set up early for this hot day, under the tent once again. We decided to
head up about 3:30, this would give us ample time to drop off the
papers. Roger had out the '62 Fairlane instead of his "Lucky 'Vette",
Bill was in his '47 Plymouth. We spotted Louie & Linda in their Nova
wagon. Clint & Lynn had the yellow '49 Ford pickup in it's "Cruiser of
the Month" spot. (Last week I had it listed as a '48, it was just a
scriveners error, sorry.) "Big John" had the '72 GTO on the corner. Bob
was out in his GMC in the "Looney Bin". Dennis was in his
'63 Grand Sport 'Vette. The "Red Line Rodders" were all in place along
with the "Rat Pack". Bob had his '41 Buick in his favorite spot. A
little further up we chatted with Gary & Helena, Emil and many more on
our way to eat. Graham, G4HFG, who was in Oldham, England was once again
on my shoulder coming over the Amateur Radio asking about the cars and
looking for Ted, KE4TTE, our other regular spectator that was going to
meet us at 4:00.
Jane our regular server at "Flippers" was
there as we chose a table on the patio under the overhang. Ted who was
on his way from the parking lot radioed his order to us so that he might
be served at the same time we were. That plan worked well. Jane in her
friendly and efficient manor, once again took great care of us. On our
way back down to the cars we all visited with the Cruisers and looked
over the great cars that had made their way on to "Trophy Row", most of
the top 3 Blocks were filled, cars were now being directed to Block 4.
While we were gone a large group of Mustangs were now occupying the West
side. Bob, in his '36 Ford followed Ron in his '64 Corvair convertible,
they took a spot just around from the Roller coaster. Tony & Marlene
stopped by for a visit, they were in their '30 Chevy, "Cletus". Good
seeing them on a Saturday. Joe & Harriet in their Rose Colored T-Bird
were spotted, "Doc" was out in "Tater Truck" with Cara & Suzanne. John &
Mary B would park a bit down from us in their 'Vette. Bob, N4RDS, and
family stopped for a chat, we spotted Nick, my head gasket isn't in yet,
Fran and family looking at the large display of cars and visiting. Even
a few more local HAM Radio operators stopped out to check out the cars
and what Old Town has to offer. Chris, KE4DUJ, and his Dad stopped to
visit for a while. Jim & Craig, "The
Dukes" were in place entertaining the masses.
Clint & Lynn Olson in
their '49 Ford pickup. April's "Cruiser of the Month" were led to block 4 right
at 8:15. Followed by the cars off the "Bricks" then the cars from the top 3 blocks would
join in, to the staging area
that Block 4 becomes at this time. Mike Singer, who had been playing his
great mix of nostalgic music, notified us that due to emergency traffic
in the back parking lot there would be a slight delay. The safety announcements
were only 4 minutes late, he then played the
National Anthem. "Wolfman Jack" proclaimed "It's the
Saturday Nite Cruise". Lee led the '49 Ford from the turn at "Kids
Town", followed by the rest of the 249 Cruisers onto the bricks of "Deac
Hundley Blvd." for this the 877th running of this Central Florida
tradition to a near capacity crowd of cheering spectators.
Thank you Old Town for letting us, the
curators of this "Rolling Display of Automotive History", the cars that
are the "Stars", to be their guests this evening. Thank you
to the Old Town Merchants Association and the Sponsors of this event,
Valvoline & the A&W to name a few. Thank you to Rich, Joe, Ron,
Lee, Nikki, Bratt and the entire Cruise
Staff for keeping us all safe. Thank you to our fellow Cruisers for
making this our 229th consecutive Saturday another fun and safe day in "Town".

Checkered Flag" along with $25 cash, A Case of Oil from Valvoline and a drink from the
