We all live in a yellow Submarine, oh, wait, that's a "Beetles" song.
Maybe today would have been better from a Submarine. Linda & I headed
for the Cruise at our regular time and arrived about 1:45, Ron greeted
us as usual. He was in shorts, well after all it was 87 degrees
yesterday but today it had not passed 62 degrees on the thermometer yet,
no Sunshine to bring the heat up either. Nikki met us at the turn by the
Clock to register us, Bratt was out of town this weekend so the
responsibilities shifted around, Mesha was in the office taking Nikki's
place. The Nostalgic Novas were in "Town", nearly 100 of them were
occupying Block 4 so we had to find another place to park. We ended up
in the "Looney Bin" with Bob, Larry & Cris. Steve Mc arrived just after
2:30 with his Courier and parked with us. Tony & Sharon in "Lucy"
followed a little later and parked across the street. The top 3 blocks
were a little light on occupants. Seems like the threat of thunderstorms
along with the cloudy skies were keeping many of the "Early Bird"
Cruisers away for a while. As Linda and I delivered the newsletters we
did run into many of the "Redline Rodders", Darrell with his Ford and
Emil in his 48 Ford as well as a few more "Die Hards". We also spotted
this Blue Plymouth GTX, it had Steve & Carolyn from Nova Scotia setting
behind it, they just arrived in Florida last night and should be with us
for a month. We also spotted a couple of familiar Crosley's at the
bottom of block 3 from Ohio. Good to see them back as well.
We then ventured into "Nova Ville", well Block 4, it looked as though
the event was a success. We thought we heard a T-Rex, yup, it was that
Bad '66 Nova of Mark's. Good seeing him and the line up of Nova's. The
ones that occupied our normal parking area were going to Cruise with us
so we would stay in Block 2 for the rest of the night.
"Tony the Timer" forgot his watch at home today but he did manage to
keep the eats on track. We headed up for Dinner just before 4:00, Steve
Mc stayed behind to go out with Neil & Elaine upon their arrival. Of
course we ran into more "Regulars" and had to drool over a few cars that
we hadn't seen in a while. Mike, (N4HHA), & Kristen were on the way out
on the Bike to join us. They along with Annette should be debuting their
first Cruiser next week. It is a '64 Corvair Monza 900 convertible.
Today we chose to dine in. Jane took great care of us as usual and once
again the food was good at "Flippers". On the way back down to the cars
we learned that they gates no longer close between 4:00 and 5:00. This
change is to facilitate the flow for spectator parking. I stopped in to
"Old Town Radio" for a little chat with Mike Singer, Linda visited down
stairs with Bob & Darrell. Gary & Wanda had made it out in "Remember
When" while we were eating. Steve called Neil & Elaine and told them
they might as well stay home, it looked like we were going to get rain
off and on all night.
The rest of the night went on as usual, except for the displacement of
Cruisers, like Nick & Bob had their cars across from us up in block 2.
It was maybe a good thing the weather was keeping some of the "Regulars"
away. Us "Die Hards" that usually are in Block 4 were up in their
spaces. It was fun to be in another spot for an evening. we did get a
chance to chat with Cris & Larry a little more than any other Saturday
Night. The Rain started to cause the spectator crowd to thin a bit by
7:00. Steve pulled out of his spot and Neil pulled his Gray, or was it
Blue, or Pink. It was Gray '41 Chevy coupe into the vacated spot. The
rest of the evening was spent trying to stay dry.
Just after 8:00, Mesha brought us the "Flag Winners" list and the cars
started to line up for this, the 871st running of the "Saturday Nite
Cruise
