March 24th

I can't start it of with WOW, what a beautiful day, oh, I just did. At the top of the "Hill" we met up with Steve in the "Grinster", Sharon & Tony in "Lucy", their '69 Ranchero, in our Corvair. Our little caravan headed out a few minutes early and because of a miscommunication we left Mike in his Corvair behind. Rich, the Cruise Director, is out of town for the next few weeks to attend a wedding and do some long overdue visiting.

As we rolled up to the gate, Lee, filling in for Ron, met us at the gate. Next step down the bricks was to get registered, Nikki was filling in again, Bratt is still off for another week or so. There were a lot of different cars parked where many of the regulars would have been in Block 3. Many were in Daytona this weekend, it seemed as though there were 2 new ones in place of each regular that wasn't out. Lots of Canadian and New England cars out for the first time. We did get our "Regular" parking spaces in Block 4. Mike did catch up with us and parked next to our Corvair. A short while later, Ed & Evelyn in their '63 Corvair convertible would join  the line up we started. Tom & Edna in their '58 Buick would park next to them. Gary & Wanda would be out later and had to park a ways down from us. They were delayed by a sick Dog emergency. After chatting for a while Linda & I set out for our first walk up to the top of "Trophy Row" and the deliveries of the newsletter. Many of the "Redline Rodders" were in Daytona, however the few that were out made up for them.  We had run into Ralph & Shirley earlier on the way in, they were now set up under the stairs by the stage with a bucket of Popcorn, watching the "Big Screen", well, actually people watching. Dennis & Cindy had their 'Vette in the "Looney Bin". Usually they are across the street. Of course Bob had his GMC and Cris & Larry were in the Comet. On the way back to Block 4 we ran into more regulars that had now made it to the nights event.

While "Tony the Timer" was in countdown mode Ralph & Ulla, "Snowbird-Regulars" from Maine, stopped by to say hello, he was looking good. After a battle with his health. By now Block 4 was starting to fill up. Linda was hungry again, so before the timer went off we were on our way to lunch. 5 of us headed for "Flippers", who'd of guessed? We noticed this VW where John & Angel park, you know next to that "Lucky 'Vette" that Roger & Sue brought out. Seems that that Monte Carlo was sold off and they now have a VW Bug. Anyone keeping score? I lost track. With it being such a nice day we chose to dine alfresco, Jane, our wonderful server, took great care of the five of us as usual. The choices from the "Bill of Fare" were very good as usual. After a leisurely meal we headed back to the cars. I went to visit with Mike Singer, that was already playing his usual mix over "Old Town Radio". Then I heard it, the earth shook, it could only be the "T-Rex", yup I was right, it was Mark piloting his Pro-Street Nova to Block 1.

Once we were back, Mark R & his companion came over for a visit, this week we didn't have to rush off. A very good visit. Ray & Carm rolled their '32 Coupe in and parked next to the Beer Truck. Ted, KE4TTE, and friend of the Cruise arrived and would spend the evening with us. Next week he says that Gina will join in as well. Even Don W. no "Plain Jane" though, was spotted and stopped by for a bit. Rodger brought out his '56 Citroën CV11, just one of many European cars he has.

The rest of the evening was spent in it's normal fashion, car stories with the extremely large crowd of spectators and Cruisers alike. It is our pleasure to come out to this "American Old Town" every week with friends and family, in fact this was our 226th consecutive Saturday we have done so.

Nikki found us just after 8:00 with the flag winners list. Just after 8:15 Lee, & Gary led Tara Bush, in her Nova, "Cruiser of the Month" for March to lead the Cruise, "Herbie, the Love Bug" followed close behind her then the Cruisers from the top 3 Blocks. Mike Singer gave the safety announcements, played the National Anthem right on time. "Wolfman Jack" proclaimed "It's the Saturday Nite Cruise". The lead cars made that turn by "Kids Town" onto the bricks of "Deac Hundley Blvd." followed by 275 more, for this the 874th running of this Central Florida tradition.

Thank You to all that make this great event a reality each and every week. Old Town, The merchants Association, the Sponsors, the Spectators, the Cruise Staff and our fellow Cruisers for another fun and safe day in "Town".

Neil, It's your fault! Just ask Steve Mc. the "Dreaded Rotor Disease", he knows your a carrier! "Tony the Taper" came to the rescue.

On to the Flag Winners!

Tonight's random drawing winners that and received the coveted "Old Town Checkered Flag" along with $25 cash, A Case of Oil from Valvoline and a drink from the Tropical Breeze.

Congratulations to the Checkered Flag Winners!
