We arrived at Old Town at our regular time, just after 1:30, Tony was in
the lead and our little Corvair was followed by Steve Mc in his '53 Ford
Courier. Ron's smile at the gate is always a welcome sight to see, Bratt
signed us in and we were on our way to Block 4. Tony & Sharon's
grandkids, Chris and Victoria, were with them tonight. Many of our
"Regulars" were not going to be out tonight for various reasons like the
cold snap that we are in the middle of and of course the "Speed Weeks"
at Daytona. Linda & I went out to drop off the newsletters and spotted
most of the "Red Liner Rodders", just some of the "Die Hards" that won't
miss a Saturday Nite. Bill & Doris tracked us down while we were out
with their report and several orders for the Friday Nite Dash ID's. We
spotted Jennifer Johnston, she was getting ready for some of her "On the
Street" remotes for Old Town Radio. Tony "the timer" kept us on track
for the 4:00 feeding.
On our way up to "Flippers" we saw "Big John" in that great '64 Vette
roadster. However there weren't any loons to be found in their bin.
Guess they took the week off. Today we dinned in. Jane our official
server took great care of us as usual and Victoria and Chris didn't have
to have Cola as one of their Pizza toppings. Check with Tony for details
on that.
After we all got back to our cars we did the normal visiting with all of
our fellow Cruisers and the very large group of spectators that were now
filling "Trophy Row". Nick & Fran rolled their '32 Ford 5 Window Coupe
in to block4, Bob joined us in block 4 with his '68 Chevelle, Roger
brought his '56 Chevy and Larry was in his '50 Chevy just down from
Tony. G4HFG, Graham, a amateur radio friend joined us over the two way
radio as he does every Cruise, from Oldham, near Manchester, England.
John, K8ZEC, visiting, snowbird, amateur radio operator from Troy
Michigan stopped out to look at the cars and say hello. Gregg and Emma
Nelson, now living in Lakeland stopped to visit for a while as did Bert
& "Ernie". Linda & I actually were able to take a walk up to the upper
blocks around 6:30, we spotted Larry, from Canada in his '40 Ford,
"ITZA40". He will be with us for about a month. He last spent time
Cruising with us 2 years ago. Good to see you.
Tonight "The Dukes" would be back on a corner on the Boulevard. They
will be with us on Friday and Saturday Nites once again. Weather
permitting and without prior engagements, (paid gigs). Stop by their
website to see their schedule.
www.dukesoldies.com.
It will be good hearing them harmonizing on the corner in front of Black
Hills Minerals. Stop by and listen when you can, if you like what you
hear don't be afraid to drop a few bucks in the jar.
Jennifer was in the control room with Mike Singer tonight, Mesha brought
us the "Flag Winners' about 8:15. Nikki was off celebrating her
birthday. Then Cindy & Dennis, our February "Cruiser of the Month,
Sweethearts" were led to block 4, that becomes the staging are for the
nights event, by Rich, our Cruise Director, followed by the rest of the
cars from the top 3 blocks. Mike Singer gave the safety announcements,
played the National Anthem, "Wolfman Jack" proclaimed, "It's the
Saturday Nite Cruise". Right on time the 131 cars made the turn onto
"Deac Hundley Blvd." for the 869th running of this parade to a cheering
crowd of spectators. Jennifer took over for Mike and gave a few of the
announcements during the Cruise.
Thank You to, Old Town, Old Town Merchants Association, the Sponsors,
the "Cruise Staff" and our fellow Cruisers for another fun & safe day,
in "Town"
On to the Flag Winners!
