What a beautiful day for another outing to Old Town. Rain was in the
forecast for later in the evening. This didn't deter our little caravan
from heading out. Steve Mc went on his own, Linda & Sharon had us stop
by one of their favorite craft shops for supplies. We arrived at Old
Town just before 2:00, Steve had his Ranchero parked down in our usual
gathering place in block 4 behind Black Hills Minerals. Ron greeted us
at the gate, Bratt checked us in. As we made our turn onto "Trophy Row"
we noticed many of the regulars back in their spots. Cathy dropped the
gate so we could cross over Florida Plaza and Steve had the gate open
for us on Block 4. Richard took the day off so Joe was filling in for
some of his duties. Later Tommy would be at the "Turn" by the Roller
Coaster.
Linda and I headed up to drop off the newsletters,
Bruce was parked in his little piece of America with his "Split Window"
'Vette. Joe & Kay, with "Raz" just up from him and Louie pulled in, with
the "Tiki Hut" as we made our way up to the top two blocks. Daryl, Big
Daddy, had "Her" '55 Chevy parked at the angle by the Old Town Photo
shop. Bob had his GMC back in the "Looney Bin", Larry & Cris had the 'Stang
in it's regular spot. A little further up were the "Red Line Rodders"
and the "Rat Pack". Don, the head "Rat" had his "Winter Hair" sun visor
on. Ralph & Shirley we already setting by the stage. Always good to see
them out. Clint & Lynn had the '48 Ford pickup near the stage. Tony &
Marianne were there in the "Monte", Booby G in his '54 Chevy. It sure
was good to see all, where they like to be. It was nearing time to head
out for dinner and we didn't want to miss our "Timers" count down. Just
about then Dave rolled in a '57 Chevy Convertible.
When Linda & I got back down to our car, Tony had
moved his Ranchero over so that Ed & Evelyn's Corvair Convertible would
be side by side with our little coupe. The Ranchero's made nice
bookends. It was time to go to dinner, the group was split and Tony &
Sharon came to "Flippers" with us, Ed, Evelyn and Steve would go to
Burger King. Jane, our "Official Server", took great care of us once
again. On our way back to the cars near 5:00 we saw Chuck in his "T-Bucket"
along with several other regulars. Gary & Wanda would join us a few
minutes later. Neil & Elaine would have their 2 British cars parked
across from us. Bob would bring out his '71 Camaro, with granddaughter,
Brent and daughter would be in his El Camino. Later Magrorie and
Lindsay would bring out Bob's SS396 Chevelle, first time for both cars
to be at Old Town, what a treat for all. Just about 7:00 we had a few
sprinkles, Neil & Elaine left for home, they just hate to put the tops
up on their little sports cars. (It never really rained until after the
Cruise was over and they missed out on the checkered flag). The rest of
the evening was spent talking cars with spectators and Cruisers alike.
Shortly after 8:00 Nikki would drop off the "Flag
Winners" list to us, then at 8:15 Bratt and Lee would escort Daryl in
his '66 Ford, January "Cruiser of the Month", for his last lead of this
event. The rest of the Cruisers from the top 3 blocks would follow to
block 4 that becomes the staging area at this time. 8:30 came around and
Mike Singer, that played "Dance On" by the Shadows a little earlier in
the evening, that Linda would like to thank him for, gave the safety
announcements, played the National Anthem, "Wolfman Jack" proclaimed ,
"It's the Saturday Nite Cruise!". The 213 Cruisers that were on display
all day made their way onto the bricks of "Deac Hundley Blvd." for this
the 866th running of the International spectacle that is "The Saturday
Nite Cruise®".
Thank you to all that came out to see these cars that
we, the Cruisers love to show off. Thank You to Old Town for letting us
be their guests, to the Merchants Association and the Sponsors for
supporting this Cruise over the last 16 plus years.
On to the Flag Winners!
