The "New Hope Organization" was in block 4 for their first annual
fundraiser. Our little caravan of 3 made it's way in to Old Town just
after 1:30. Ron's smiling face at the gate welcoming us. Then a little
further down Bratt was at her station to sign us in. The Car Show was
set up and we had to wait a while before we could make our way down to
our regular spot behind "Black Hills Minerals". John & Angel were back
this week, she is feeling much better. Roger had his 'Vette out and his
son in the Camaro. There were a lot of cars that had not been in in a
long time or they were new to this 16 year plus tradition. A great '57
Buick convertible, a '47 Chevy convertible and a '66 Chevy convertible
that I hadn't ever seen. Steve was out in his Pontiac "Rat Rod". the
Lone Ranger was Bow Tie Bob tonight, instead of his Edsel he was in his
latest car, a '57 Chevy.
While we were waiting to get
to our spot Linda & I delivered the newsletters to all the regulars up
in to the "Red Line Rodders", the "Rat Pack" and the "Looney Bin",
that was occupied by Larry & Butch. The New Smyrna Marching Band was
playing on the main stage.
After we got back to our waiting area Gary helped the
Knitting Kruzers a bit with a yarn problem. It was then time for the car
show in block 4 to move out. The transition to "second shift" was very
smooth thanks to Gary and the rest of the staff on duty. Tony kept us on
time for lunch. "Malibu Mike" was out in his Greenbrier and he joined us
for lunch. We made our way up to the top of block 1, part of our group
went to the BK 5 of us went over to "Flippers". Jane told us that it had
been very busy but it had slowed down a bit and we managed to have a bit
of a chat tonight. She took good care of us and then we headed back to
the cars as the gate reopened.
We visited with the new arrivals and I stopped up to
Old Town radio, to see Mike Singer. All is well. He was playing his
usual mix of music we all enjoy.
When we got back to the cars Don in his 2+2 Mustang
had joined us as did Bob in the '36 Ford, Ron in his '64 Corvair
convertible, Bob in the Orange Chevelle, Chuck & Cindy in their T-Bucket
but they had to park down a bit from us, as all of the empty spots
filled up that were near us. This is why we like to come out early in
the day and get some spots near each other.
The spectator crowd was very large and it came in
waves so we did have a break from time to time. The rest of the night
was spent in it's normal fashion, showing off and talking about our
cars. Fred, or seasonal spectator, was out and excited to be joining in
with us on the trip to Mount Dora tomorrow, he will be riding with the
"Mustang Twins".
Just after 8:00 Nikki brought me the Flag Winners
list just before the Cruiser of the Month, Daryl in his '66 Ford was led
to the staging area followed by the cruisers from the top 3 blocks. At
8:30 Mike Singer gave the safety announcements, played the National
Anthem, "Wolfman Jack" proclaimed, "It's the Saturday Nite Cruise". On
time at 8:32 the Cruise started but tonight the 300 cars of this Cruise
was led by the New Smyrna Marching Band. This was an added treat for the
thousands of people lining the boulevards and sidewalks of "Deac Hundley
Blvd." It sure is nice to be part of this event each and every week.
Thank You! To Old Town, the merchants association.
the sponsors, fellow Cruisers, the Cruise Staff and to all of the
spectators for allowing us to be your guests on a Saturday night.
On to the Flag Winners!
