30 cars would show up in the "feels like 108 degrees" today, maybe the
ones that didn't come out were the smart ones, the TV stations were
telling us all to stay indoors, those of us that are "Die Hards"
bringing along plenty of hydration supplies and portable shade, would
take our favorite places in the South East corner of the Wal-Mart
parking lot as we do each and every week. Linda & I were setting on the
"Hill", utilizing some of the shade created by the tree and the canopy
at the Sonic, behind our Corvair by 4:00. "Mustang Mike" would set up
the DJ rig a few moments after we were settled in. Steve Mc, in his '41
Willys pickup, Paul in the DeSoto, Ron in his '61 Caddy and Tony &
Marianne in "Black Beauty", their '71 Monte Carlo SS, were the early
arrivals. Nicky "Bop" was the next to arrive in his '32 Deuce Coupe just
as we were headed over for our dinner at the Sonic. "Looser # 2, Tony,
was already there in his 'Vette. Then Bob wheeled his SSR into the lot,
tonight grandson, Jimmy, would be with him. He is in town for a few
weeks from Maryland. While we were eating. Ed & Sarah would join us,
they brought out the '77 Starfire. Louie arrived in his '52 Ford, cousin
John would set with him, he was out in the daily driver due to
circumstances beyond his control, the Caddy was at home. Bob would park
his '36 Ford Humpback by the doors of the DJ rig, he would help Mike out
with the ticket sales. The "Wookie" would bring out the "Heartbreaker"
and not the Buick. Doc had Suzanne's Charger just down from us. "Bo"
would park his '64 Corvair just where he likes it. Bert & "Ernie" would
park their '66 Comet in it's place of honor. Bill would bring in his
Blazer and park by Paul. Jean, who is confident that she will have her
'36 Ford back by October, she has even registered it in a show. Nick &
Francine would have the 5 Window Coupe parked behind the front row, Bob
would have his '68 SS396 Chevelle where "Big John" usually parks, there
was some one selling a boat parked in their favorite spot along 13th
street. Ron brought out his Model A tonight, he and Shirley had been at
the cabin in Georgia for a month. Al parked his model A next to Doc.
Roger in his '56 Chevy and Gary & Wanda in their '55 Chevy were just
down from Tom, Diane and grandson in the Model A pickup. Steve, Charlie
and Marie parked the '77 deVille next to us. "Scary Larry" was in the
second row by Nick with his Mustang. "Bailey" would have Dave park his
Mustang along 13th street. Jaime would have his Cobra nearby. Stephen
had his 'Vette in row 3, even Ray showed for a little while in his white
one. Dan Z would bring his Harley out for a little while, Dana along
with Angel Angelero and his bride were amongst the spectators. Don R was
out in a new Mustang, parked right next to Roy's '64 Galaxie. Hank had
his "Baja Bug" parked behind "Bo". I am sure there were others that I
didn't get to talk with tonight. We did have a lot of spectators for
such a hot day.
Even though it was Hot, it is still always fun to come out every week
and play. This Cruise-In, now in it's 7th year has become quite a
family, all looking forward to the next one. Just after 7:00, you
guessed it, George rolled his heirloom '61 Falcon in to the lot. The
drawings were coming up soon. Tony & Louie went over and did a bit of
prize shopping. Thank You.
Bailey & Tippy won the 50/50 of $75, well I guess I should say
David Turnbull, Cruiser #619, purchased the winning ticket, he donated
$5 each to the Cruise-In and this newsletter, Thank You.
The "Cruise-A-Matic" rolls to $300 next week, the 16th, George & Mary
Sanderson, Cruiser #609, weren't out tonight. So we draw numbers until
we have a winner.
"Mustang Mike" awarded Linda & I our plaque for August 2007 "Cruiser of
the Month", Thank You.
Tonight's "Cruiser of the Week" went home in Nick & Fran Cortese's,
