For some reason we arrived at South-West corner of the Wal-Mart parking
lot, the home of the Thursday Nite Cruise-In on 13th Street in Saint
Cloud, a little earlier than normal. There was 1 bank car blocking the
end of the lot where Mike likes to set up, I guess they didn't get the
memo. Linda took the opportunity to make a short shopping trip before
the event started. I placed our chairs in the shade under the Sonic
parking lot just behind our car. I connected my repeater to the KC2GUM,
Bill Azar's, N2WFU, machine in Tom's River New Jersey, Bill was in his
car some 30 miles from it, we had a nice conversation, Bill remarked
that Mr. Lucky & Trevor's ears popped up and they started to listen once
the heard my voice, they both started to get real happy when they heard
"Cruise". Bill wanted me to say hello to all from him, the boy's and
Virginia, W2VEJ. They will be back with us near the end of September.
"Mustang Mike" pulled in and maneuvered the DJ rig into it's spot, it
was a little harder with that PT Cruiser convertible parked there. Bob
was in his SSR arrived about the time that Tony & Marianne backed the
"Black Beauty' their '71 Monte Carlo SS into it's spot. Ron rolled his
'61 Caddy into the lot before they were situated. Graham, G4HFG, checked
in over the radio from Manchester, England to get his report. He wanted
to make sure that Ken, who had parked his "Car Lot" next to us, that the
T-Bird he purchased from him was under cover in Florida and wished he
would have taken it back to the UK with him. Ed & Sarah brought out the
'77 Starfire. Bob parked his '36 Ford Humpback in the now vacated, Bank
Car spot. Steve Mc brought out the '41 Willys, Dan Z parked the
"Grinster" next to him. Richard F brought out one of his Model A's, good
seeing him out. Paul had his DeSoto under the big shade tree. Bill had
his Blazer next to him. Jeff & Tara were out in their daily driver, Ed &
Evelyn must have used too much Clear Coat on their Cruiser, all I saw
was an empty spot. Bob, didn't have the '68 Chevelle out tonight, he was
home with family celebrating Marge's birthday. "Big John" and Tammie
must have been out to dinner tonight to celebrate their anniversary. So,
Happy Birthday and Happy Anniversary! Nick was out in his '32 Ford 5
window coupe, Fran brought out a '95 Z28. Nicky "Bop" still "Looking for
an Echo" was within arm reach of Marianne. Still can't keep him in line.
Ron had my favorite '53 Chevy out tonight.
There were many more of the regulars out tonight, Larry & Barbra are
back from Michigan, all the Grand Kids were out with them tonight as
well, I am sure we will see them every week now. AJ has grown taller
than Mike over the Summer. Next year he will look down at him. Jamie &
Aglae had their Cobra parked at the South end next to Jonathan's Camaro.
I actually spent a bit of time setting down, I think the heat had gotten
to me and tonight the breeze was just so nice it felt good to watch the
world go by. Dave & Arlene made it out just before the drawings, in the
black '66 mustang convertible, it was good to see them on a Thursday. We
had a lot of spectators, even some recent transplants from Scotland,
with the same last name as Ron.
The 50/50 grew to $108 tonight, Young Jonathan was holding the winning
ticket, Great Uncle Nicky "Bop" volunteered to pick it up but his
father, John Dilullo, Cruiser #390, came to collect the winnings. He
donated $20 back to the Cruise-In. Thank You.
The "Cruise-A-Matic" rolls up to $50 next week, Tom & Wendy Dabrowski,
Cruiser #662, weren't out tonight. Awwwww.
The Eagle Engraving / Embroidery by Rene, "Cruiser of the Week" went
home in a 1932 Model A Ford Pickup, Cruiser # 460, Tom & Diane Hoboth.
