What can I say, Florida was on fire, still lots of wildfires all around
the state. More than 220 were still blazing. Rain chances were at
30%, the skies looked as though they could have opened up at any time
with a downpour, actually we need the rain but were hoping it would stay
away at least until the Cruise was over. Linda & I were running a little
behind schedule but still managed to arrive just after 4:00. Bill and
the Boys were out in the 'Vette for the last time until September, Bob
his neighbor came with them. Bob arrived in the SSR shortly afterwards,
Ron in the '61 Caddy took his favorite spot. "Mustang Mike" parked the
DJ Rig along south end of the parking lot next to 13th Street, (192).
This may have to become it's new spot. When he arrived the employee's of
the bank were still in his normal spot. Dan Z. brought out his Corvair
convertible. Paul wouldn't be lost tonight, he has his DeSoto parked
just where he liked it. Just about that time we started to get a little
rain. It lasted long enough for Bob, Bill, Ron and Dan to get the tops
up on their cars. Then it stopped as Tony & Marianne rolled their "Black
Beauty", the '71 Monte Carlo SS, into the parking lot. Ed & Sarah were
out sans the "Shortbox" pickup, it was raining when the left home. Steve
Mc was in the "Grinster". "Doc" and Cara were in the "Tater Truck" and
parked next to the "Grinster". Tony & Sharon debuted the yellow '62
Corvair coupe .Mike, (N4HHA) stopped by in a daily driver, still
working, to see the Corvairs and drop off his entry for the Cypress
Gardens run on the 20th. Dave was out in his Anglia, Jonathan brought
out the SS Camaro and his folks too. The "Wookie" was in the Buick, Bert
& Ernie had the F150 out. Jaime & Aglae had their Cobra in it's place of
honor by the DJ rig guarded by "Grizzly". Bob had the '41 Buick, I even
spotted "Big Jim", out before dark! Neil & Elaine were out in her
Triumph for the last Thursday Cruise before heading back to the UK,
until sometime in October. They will be missed. Phil was out in his
Camaro, Louie was MIA, Cousin John said he was painting wheels. Nicky
"Bop" had his '55 Chevy in his favorite spot. Tom & Edna were out in the
'65 Greenbrier 8 door. Ron H. was out in my favorite Chevy. I know I
missed a few of you, but the mind is a terrible thing. Yes, there even
was a "Cousin Vinney" and Tim sighting.
"Mustang Mike" will be the DJ at the Downtown Lakeland show this
Saturday Night from 5:00 to 9:00 PM. Join in if you can.
