The Rose of Sharon Worship Center Car Show
State Road 50, 3.5 miles west of Mascotte, Florida
Story and Photos by Ken "Dusty" Havens

Ken "DJ Dusty" Havens, one of our roving reporters, took in the first ever show at the Rose of Sharon Worship Center.   He files this report and photos.

The Rose of Sharon Worship Center on State Road 50, about 3.5 miles west of Mascotte, had it's first car show today Saturday August 12th from 10:00am to 4:00pm. It's supposed to be every 2nd or 3rd month from here on. There was a modest turn-out. Just over 20 cars and trucks. But the caliber of vehicles in attendance was anything but modest. The food was good, and reasonably priced. There were six classes of competition, with BIG trophies. The admission price, FREE, set well with all in attendance. They even came around with free bottles of cold water for all the participants. There were several door prizes and a 50/50. Live Gospel music was played by several groups through the day.

They had everything from a street driven two seat big block Chevy powered dragster,

to a 1950 International gas powered truck-tractor named "Giddy-Up-Go." It has late model air-ride, and polished aluminum Budd type wheels.

This '49 Merc was a beautiful full resto. It was originally from Miami, and was bought in Ocoee 21 years ago and sat in a storage shed for almost 10 years before the resto started. I think everything but the driver has been completely redone.

The Corvette on the end won best of show. Which by the way was a trophy almost 5' tall. The Corvette deserved every compliment that could be given it. It looked like it had just come off the assembly line, only better.

The yellow Ford Pick-up was Chevy powered and pretty as it could be.

The '66 Fairlane had gorgeous paint with really cool graphics.

The red 64 1/2 Mustang drop-top is a multi-national show winner from Sutton's Mustang Ranch in Webster Florida. The silver '65 Galaxie 500 is my newly acquired, just over a week ago, cruiser.  The Blue '55 Chevy is a 2 door wagon.

I had to take a picture of this '57 Ford Fairlane 500. I had one exactly like it in 1962, except I didn't add A/C to mine.

The pretty little roadster was flaming hot.

The paint on the beautiful '58 T-Bird looked like it was still wet.

I inadvertently left my camera on after taking the early photos and that's the reason for no close-ups of the winners.

For more info on future shows, contact Bill at 321-239-5914 or Gloria at 352-267-8146. As I said they told me as I was getting ready to leave, they want to do this every 2nd or 3rd month.

Be Safe,
 ______ Dusty
