F.A.C.A.C.A.
Florida Antique and Classic Automobile Cruisers Association
July 1st
We started out for Wal-Mart/Sonic
parking lot where we met up with Steve & Cheryl Mc. in their blue
Ranchero and Paul & Betty in their maroon Mustang. We waited till after
2pm for some others to show up. Guess the threat of rain kept them away.
We tied black ribbons on our antennas as a sign of mourning for our dear
friend, Duke Davis who passed away on June. 28, 2006, on the anniversary
of his Magnolia Square cruise. As his wife, Gertrude, said we should
continue on to the pre-planned cruise to a car show in Winter Haven, he
would have wanted us to. We pulled in to Sonny's' BBQ, on Pleasanthill
Rd. shopping center to meet up with Tony & Sharon, Wanda & Gary, Ron &
Nancy and John in his red Mustang. Then we were on our way again
caravanning to Winter Haven with Tony & Sharon leading the way. Started
raining 5 miles outside of winter Haven. Paul & Betty had to stop to put
up top of convertible..
We arrived at 3:35 the rain
stopped, Terry & Chris were there with their '51 Ford After settling in
Paul called for directions and came in shortly after. Steve & Ron
greeted each other with their "special" 40 year old greeting. Three city
streets were blocked off and lined with cars. This once a month event
seems to be building each month.
The sun came out, everyone began
wiping off their cars, as the ladies took off for the shops. At 4:45 the
hungry crew went off to search for food and decided on Score Family
Sports Cafe, good food and friendly people. At 6:30 the Butch Johnston,
the DJ gave an outline of Dukes passion for cruises and as we all stood
in front of our cars there was a moment of silence in honor of Duke
followed by a Dean Martin recording of "Memories Are Made of This" at 8
pm door prizes and 50/50 prizes were awarded then 130 cars began the
cruise to the end of a perfectly wonderful day.
We'll miss you, Duke, thank
you for the memories.

Here are a few Photos that Tony DeBlasio managed to get in.

Linda and I were at Old Town, Mike and Carol stopped by and
made the comment that many of us may have not even met if it hadn't been
for a "Duke" Davis, "Cruise-In".
Thank you Evelyn and Tony for the photos and the story.
