April 22nd

Linda and I pulled into the Wal-Mart parking lot at 7;45AM, near the "Sonic" to meet up with Tony & Sharon as well as the rest of the "Run to the River" participants. The "Run to the River" better known as the 31st Annual Indian River Car show in conjunction with the Indian River Festival in Titusville Florida. First thing I had to ask Tony. "Is this what morning looks like?", Linda and I are just really getting to sleep by this time, hey, at least we made it.

Unsure of just how many were going to make the run with us, Linda checked her updated list with Tony. It looked as though we were going to have a dozen or so caravanning along some of the Back roads then right up US 1 from Cocoa to Titusville. The Leopold's had their '64 Pontiac, Tony & Sharon had "Lucy" their '69 Ranchero out for the first time with her new "Coat", Gary & Wanda had "Remember When" their '55 Chevy, Kay was in "Razz" her '70 Corvette, Joe in his '66 Mustang, Jim & Peggy in their '67 GTO, Joe & Andria with their '40 Chevy, Fred, our perennial spectator, Michigan Cruiser and good friend of Central Florida Cruisers in a PT Cruiser and of course Linda and I in our '61 Corvair, pulled out of the lot at 8:13AM. Steve & Cheryl in their '62 Ranchero were to join us from the 7-11 at Narcoose road. Mike & Gale in their 30 Ford roadster and Louie & Becky in their '31 Studebaker Coupe was also with them. Our last "Pull In" was to be Paul & Betty Kemp in their '66 Mustang Convertible along Nova Road.

The trip was was very pleasant along Nova road, that is except for two Idiot Dump Truck Drivers that passed our whole caravan at the same time. I guess part of their job duties were to drive 10 miles an hour over the speed limit and wait for a double yellow to pass. Professionals? Hmmmm. The construction along 520 was not even a bother on our way into Cocoa. Our group stayed together quite well. The many "lights" along US 1 that slowed or stopped part of us did not really effect the planned arrival time as a group. The many spectators, well people along our route sure enjoyed seeing this parade up the "River Road". I am sure this was the "normal" for today. However many others more than likely arrived to the "Show Field" much before 9:00AM.

The "signage" for the show was very good along the way, Bob Arnold met us at the "Gate" and the very efficient club members at the registration table made a quick task of getting us our "Goodie Bags" and we were guided off to the "Point". In route to our parking area, we all observed many other great "Show Cars" and "Cruisers" in this picturesque setting. As the day progressed we all met old friends and made new ones. Butch & Jennifer, provided Car Show DJ services and nostalgic with their WJBJ Cruisin' with the Classics mobile DJ service trailer. A great job as usual.

The Vintage Vehicles Car Club the sponsoring club of this event sure made every one feel right at home. Today was a lot of work and they still have another day for this event. FACACA went home with a Club Participation award. Gary & Wanda's '55 Chevy was in the "Top 25". Bob has promised me a complete listing of the awards on Monday, I will post them here. Several of us went home with a few of the fantastic "Door Prizes". All of us agreed that we will put this on our Annual Schedule again next year.

Shortly after all of the awards were given out, many of our group and a few other attendees headed for Old Town in Kissimmee. We were to lead them in place of Tom Staggs the former president of the club, fellow Cruiser and friend, that passed away just 2 weeks ago. We were very honored and proud to do so in his memory. The trip back was though a little rain, basically enough to spot the cars so they would have to be cleaned yet another time today. Tony & Sharon took the lead and once again our little Corvair was "Tail End Charley". A very good trip back, even Tony's test, the one where he went the wrong way, was passed with ease by all that followed. Well, lets just say he is now know as WWT.  Wrong Way Tony, Kay has bestowed upon him this prestigious title, of which he has seemed to accept in the best of humor.

We all arrived just a few minutes before 5:00 at Old Town. Richard told us that our favorite area in block 4 was open. So we all rolled into that area and setup for our night at Old Town, now that is another story.

Awards lists now on line (04/25/2006 12:32:22 PM) Saturday - Sunday

Here a some photos that Tony & I took during this event.

See you all "Out There"
