The Saturday Nite Cruise®
Established in 1990
Rain or Shine, 52 Weeks a year!
Old Town Shopping Attraction.
East Highway 192
Saint Cloud, Florida

September 9th

Let's just say it is Florida! It looked real nice out then it clouded up then it was clear, it was hot then it was cool, then the rain's came but that wasn't until 7:40.

Let's back up to the arrival at Old Town. Tony & Sharon caravanned out with us today. Steve that just got back from England was going to meet us there. Linda & Sharon needed some supplies for the "Knitting Kruisers" so a stop in at Joann's was in order, after all it was a big sale. This would route us onto US 192 instead of the Toll road and would mean a wait for Tony & me in the parking lot. Back on track we arrived at Old Town just about 2:00, Lee was setting along side the road and not at the gate. For some reason we were detoured to the top of "Trophy Row" to enter. Mr. Bill & Miss Lisa were there to sign us in and Richard then opened the gate to let us in. Making our way to Block 4 we waived at the sparsely populated first three blocks. I guess everyone was waiting to see how the weather turned out before making their way to Old Town. Upon arriving at the gate to Block 4 Steve had his '27 Model T parked behind "Black Hills Minerals in our regular haunt. As I said earlier it was Sunny and Hot. Bill & Doris stopped by to pick up their newsletters, they had good news on Joe R., he is out of the hospital and the tests he had run were "normal". He should be back with us next week. Gary & Kathy C. stopped by sans their Cruiser, it was home all polished up for the big event tomorrow at Cypress Gardens, however they came out to visit and stayed for a while. Brain, '66 Nova, stopped to say Hello, his car is still "Under Reconstruction" but he couldn't stay away any longer. No more of our regulars joined us, it was now time to go to lunch.

We took a slow walk to "Flippers" but not before rolling up windows and Steve covering the topless roadster. A few of the other regulars had made it to their regular parking places, the "Looney Bin" was occupied by Butch and Larry, I guess it was Bob's day to be absent. We dropped the newsletters to Dave and the others on the subscription list. Dusty was at the top of block 4 with his 65 Ford Galaxie 500, another ebay car he said. It looked good. and good to see you out Dusty. Brandy actually came out to serve us this week in her standard fashion, always special when she is our server, then again I don't think they have server that isn't. Tony managed to keep the drinks off the Pizza tonight. On our way back I ran a newsletter up to Mike Singer at Old Town Radio, we spotted Jennifer, she was out signing up a few more cruisers for the 9/11 show at the Orange County Fairgrounds next weekend. Always good to see her out and about.

The cars did not come in very heavily at any time, just a light stream, the weather was threatening, black clouds all around us. it cooled as though there was rain nearby. yet, the rain still didn't fall. About 6:30 Steve headed for home, having that topless car out tonight and the fact that his wife called  earlier and said they had gotten so much rain in Narcoosee. Enough in fact that she wanted him to drain down the pool, it was about to overflow but not to come home yet. He did make it home without getting wet. Many other Cruisers left property as well as spectators in the next hour, Gary & Wanda came out in the '56 rather than the '55 Chevy. Joe, '66 T-Bird, hasn't been out in about 6 weeks, and was going to wait until it cooled off a bit, he too just couldn't stay away any longer. Tony & Marlene stopped by for a bit, I guess they were parked up in the top blocks somewhere, they came late in "Cletus" their '30 Chevy coupe.

8:15 rolled around, and by now it had been raining lightly for about half an hour or so and Mr. Bill led the NAPA "Cruiser of the Month" to block 4 followed by the rest of the occupants of the first 3 blocks to be staged for tonight's parade. After all were in place Mike Singer made the Safety Announcements, played the National Anthem. The 846th running of the tradition of more than 16 years, the "Saturday Nite Cruise®" made it's final turn around "Kids Town" on to the bricks of "Deac Hundley Blvd." to a smaller but very enthusiastic crowd of spectators.

Thank you to Old Town, the merchants of Old Town, the sponsors of this great weekly event, the spectators, fellow cruisers and especially the "Cruise Staff" for another great day in "Town".

On to the flag winners.

Tonight's random drawing winners that and received the coveted "Old Town Checkered Flag" along with $25 cash, A Case of Oil from NAPA and a drink from the Tropical Breeze.

Congratulations to the Checkered Flag Winners!
