September 2nd
It was a beautiful day at 1:30 when we left
the house to meet up with Tony & Sharon. They were bringing out the
daily driver along with "Lucy", Chris & Victoria, their grandchildren
were coming along tonight. Upon
our arrival we got news from Ron about his son John. he is doing better
each day. Joe, who fell last night and hit his head, is in the hospital,
guess he is pretty cantankerous, wanting to get back out to Old Town,
especially today, his birthday. He will be staying in the Florida
Hospital for some more tests before being allowed to go home. Best to be
checked out Joe, we all want to see you back.
Mr. Bill & Miss Lisa were in the
normal "Registration Point" on block 2. As we rolled onto "Trophy Row"
we noticed that not too many cars were out yet, must be that they were
all waiting to see if it was going to rain or not. The weatherman said
it was going too. We decided to be optimistic and head for our regular
spot on Block 4. After getting parked Linda and Victoria started to work
on some Crafts, Some bead jewelry from a kit, Sharon and Linda also got
right into their knitting, Chris had his sketch book out and was doing
some drawing. The shoppers in Black Hill's minerals all peered outside
to see the "Crafting", added bonus I would think.
Dan & Liz rolled down to block 4 in
the "Flamed Hugger Orange" '41 Willy's for the first time at Old Town,
They had just gotten back late last weekend from Michigan where he had
lot's of fun with this car. He asked where we were on Thursday Nite,
then he said that he didn't' read the website until after heading for
the Sonic. Good to have you back Dan & Liz! Bill & Doris stopped by to
pick up their newsletters.
We headed to "Flippers" a little early so
that we could deliver the newsletters and do a little visiting on the
way, we ran in to several other people that did not read the Thursday
Nite site. They showed up, actually the weather was not the reason for
"Calling" the Cruise-In, it was the potential weather that was
forecasted on Sunday. Anyway we saw several of the regulars in place,
The "Looney Bin" was occupied by most of the male inmates. Many of the
"Rat Pack" were in place by John and the "Double Nickel" and Bob & Marge
had the Chevy Pick up in their spot.
Jane took good care of us at "Flippers" and
while we were eating the skies opened up, it was a deluge of rain for
about 45 minutes, we enjoyed the mist and cool breeze that this afforded
us under the overhang while we dined "El Fresco". We headed back right
after the rain stopped at about 4:45. A few other regulars had made
their way to "Trophy Row" while we were eating. Gary and Kathy C. also
came in then, Kathy had spent the last few days in the hospital, she
just got out at 2:00 and when Gary asked her what she wanted to do, she
said. "Let's go to Old Town, I've been laying around for 4 days." Glad
to see you feeling better, Kathy. not sure what the place would be
without you.
After the gates opened the cars rolled in
steadily for a while, "Dirty Mike" brought out "Captain Crunch" his Full
Blown '61 Ranchero "Pro Street". "Super Man" to our Clark Kent '60 OEM
type Ranchero. It was good to see him and hear that "Plain Jane" another
'69 Ranchero's driver, Don, was recuperating a little slower than he
would have liked after a stroke. Bert stopped by with out his new leg, I
guess he over did it last night, too sore to wear it tonight. He is
ready to get it back on very soon. Ron & Bob rolled in a little later in
Bob's Corvair and parked next to Tony. Jim & Peggy brought out the GTO.
We did have a little more rain during the evening dampening the car
count.
8:15 Mr. Bill led the NAPA, "Cruiser of the
Month" Jim Zappo in his '69 Olds 442 into the "Staging Area" that block
4 becomes, followed by the Cruisers from the top three blocks. Then Mike
Singer gave a few safety announcements, wished Joe a happy Birthday then
played the National Anthem, at it's conclusion, "Wolfman Jack"
proclaimed, "It's the Saturday Nite Cruise!". Right on time the 157 cars
started to make their way around kids town and on to the "Bricks" of
"Deac Hundley Blvd" for yet another crowd pleasing display of these
great old cars.
Again, Thank You! To all that came out today
to see this weekly display off "Rolling Automotive History", Old Town
for having us all as their guests, the sponsors for keeping this
tradition going, the merchants for putting up with all of us and
especially our fellow Cruisers that stuck it out through the rain. We
had a great day in "Town".
Tonight's random drawing winners that and received the coveted "Old Town
Checkered Flag" along with $25 cash, A Case of Oil from NAPA and a drink from the
Tropical Breeze.
Congratulations to the Checkered Flag Winners!
