The Saturday Nite Cruise®
Established in 1990
Rain or Shine, 52 Weeks a year!
Old Town Shopping Attraction.
East Highway 192
Saint Cloud, Florida

September 16th

We headed for Old Town at our regular time, most of the other regulars that come out with us were off to other shows. The Nature Coast Corvair Club's show at the Villages and the Orange County Sheriffs 9/11 show at the Fairgrounds in Orlando. As we pulled in to Old Town Ron had the good news that he will be bringing his son, John, home on Wednesday, the progress is slow but optimistic. Mr. Bill met us by the Cruise office to sign us in, there were not very many cars on "Trophy Row" at all. Bill didn't have his '55 Chevy in it's normal spot and Roger is on vacation so we joined Ron at the bottom of Block 3 instead of going down to our normal spot behind Black Hills Minerals. Gayle in his '67 VW was parked in Bill's normal spot when we arrived.

Mark stopped by and chatted for quite a while, we had an extra chair so he could be comfortable. Bill & Doris stopped to pick up their newsletters and Bill's friend, Ms Squirrel stopped for her hand out. After begging from Mark and everyone else by us, she laid in front of where Bill usually sets and I swear she pouted. A spectator then noticed her and she posed for a photo and then ran off.

At 4:00 we headed out to "Flippers" and dropped off a few newsletters, even a few of the "Indian River Car Club" were present, good seeing them out. The "Ole Parrot Head", Bob, is recuperating from an illness and hasn't cruised since May. Hope to see them back in the fall. Dave & Arlene were out in the Benz. Butch was the only Loon in the bin, Larry was out sick and I think Bob was on a trip. The "Redline Rodders" and the "Rat Pack" were in place. Bob & Marge were out again in the '49 Chevy pickup. Clint & Lynn were parked next to  the stage. Brandy, or official hostess took great care of us for dinner. As we were leaving we saw Gary & Kathy leading a line of over 40 cars onto the bricks from the 9/11 show. Then the cars would continue to arrive right up to about 7:45.

On the way back we rain in to our Scottish friends, Bob & Barb. After getting back to our car I had to give many "Tours" of the little Corvair that we brought out tonight. Roger & Larry had their cars parked next to Gary & Kathy's Fairlane. I saw John & Bob (Moe & Larry) arrive in the Mustang but I did not get to see them where they were parked. Tony & Marlene stopped by for her knitting consultation with Linda just after 7:00.

I heard it come over the radio that the gates were closed right at 8:00, it would then take only a few minutes for the flag winners to be chosen and for Mr. Bill to lead the Cruiser of the Month to the staging area for tonight's parade. Miss Lisa walked right by us, she was looking for our car in it's regular spot. I stopped her and got the Flag winners list, again we were not on it.

Mike Singer, that had been playing his usual mix of nostalgic music over Old Town Radio made the safety announcements and played the National Anthem and at 8:30 the 847th running of "The Saturday Nite Cruise©" made its way onto the bricks of "Deac Hundley Blvd" to a very large crowd of cheering spectators. The weather couldn't have been any better. While in the parade I was called on the radio by Howard, KC4ZVK, he and Ian, G4ZPZ, Michael his cousin and Wayne, VE3ECZ were at Old Town and wanted to meet up with us. They were standing at the end of the line by the Checkers. Ian was taking a video to take home to the UK. So we stopped and visited with them for a while, Dana, Wayne's better half as well as Sue, Ian's better half were present. Plans were made for their next trip to the area at Christmas time.

Thank You to Old Town, the merchants of Old Town, the Cruise sponsors, the "Cruise Staff" and our fellow Cruisers for another Fun and Safe day in "Town". Welcome back Miguel!

On to the Flag Winners.

Tonight's random drawing winners that and received the coveted "Old Town Checkered Flag" along with $25 cash, A Case of Oil from NAPA and a drink from the Tropical Breeze.

Congratulations to the Checkered Flag Winners!
