October 14th
The "Eckler's 3rd Annual Camaro Fest" was
held today along "Trophy Row" right up to 3:00. This displaced all of
the regulars until 4:00. We sat in the "Back Lot", we were able to
deliver most of the newsletters, the regulars were really grouped
together, until Mike started to bring us all up the bricks from "Kids
Town" on to "Trophy Row". At this time nearly all of the Regulars got
their "Spots". Next year, rumor has it, the show will be in block 4 and
around the Roller Coaster like the Corvette event last week that pleased
all of the regulars. Not having to move everyone around twice makes it a
lot easier for the Cruise Staff.
The large spectator crowd that was in "Town"
for the Camaro show look as though they were going to stay on for the
regular "Saturday Nite Cruise©". We got to "Flippers" just a little past
4:00 and the place was very crowded. We were served expediently by Jane
who did her usual caliber of service. When the gate reopened at 5:00 it
was both lanes to "Trophy Row" for nearly an hour. The cruisers would
continue to roll in steadily right up to the 8:00 closing.
As usual we chatted with the many friends we
have made over the years as well as walked around and looked at the cars
on display. The spectator crowd continued to grow as well. The Cruiser
Staff had their hands full tonight. The spectator parking was at
capacity by nights end. The Cruisers were lined up around the corner and
behind the roller coaster.
Then after Mike Singer, the voice of Old
Town Radio made the safety announcements and played the National Anthem,
the cars that had gathered tonight made their way around the corner at
"Kids Town" for this the 851st time in the last 16 years, onto the
bricks of "Deac Hundley Boulevard" to and enormous crowd of cheering
spectators.
Thank you to Old Town for letting us be
their guests, to the Merchant's Association as well as the A&W along
with NAPA Auto Parts for sponsoring this event, to the Cruise Staff for
bringing order to the chaos that can happen when spectators are so wide
eyed and taken with this event and the Cruisers that brought out the
nearly 300 cars tonight, our 203rd Cruise in a row.
On to the flag winners.
Tonight's random drawing winners that and received the coveted "Old Town
Checkered Flag" along with $25 cash, A Case of Oil from NAPA and a drink from the
Tropical Breeze.
Congratulations to the Checkered Flag Winners!
