The Saturday Nite Cruise®

November 25th

This Saturday the day started out very early for us, we had family in from out of town, cousins from Minnesota to be exact. It was sort of a week off for me, no newsletter because of the fact that we did not Cruise on Thanksgiving Day. We arrived before noon at Old Town, parked our Corvair in the regular lot next to their Pacifica, we decided to have lunch at "Flippers" with our visiting family. Annette was out server and we got the quality of service that we had become accustomed to having. It was a bit over cast and the chances of rain were only 10%.

After lunch we decided to immerge Jim & Donna in this nearly 17 year tradition. Once he folded himself into the little Corvair we re entered Old Town through the gate, where we were greeted by Ron. As we rolled down the bricks, we viewed the Christmas decorations and the Big Tree that adorned the Boulevard, The Snow begins Monday nite. Brat was at her post in a Poodle Skirt, this will be the costume for the registration person from now on I guess, I think Tommy might look a bit strange in it but then again.... As we made our turn onto "Trophy Row' we noticed that the car count was a little light. With the 33rd Annual "Turkey Run" going on in Daytona I expected a bit of a smaller turn out. In fact many of the regulars that come out with us were spending multiple days over at this event, it would be a very long day if they would have tried to include a trip to Old Town in the same day. This would be our 209th consecutive Saturday trip to Old Town on a Saturday night. Once we were parked we walked our visitors up "Trophy Row" to get to their car for the next leg of their trip to Fort Meyers, that will become their home after the first of the year, we stopped and talked with Gary, John, Mark, Bruce and Wax in block 3 as Cousins Jim & Donna admired their cars. Then on to block 2 where several of the "Red Line Rodders" we parked in regular spots. It was time for them to head out so we bid our farewells in the parking lot by "Flippers" and Linda & I headed back to our car.

It clouded up a bit, looked like we might be getting some rain. "Mustang" Mike AKA "Malibu" Mike was spotted in his Greenbrier parked next to Wax. Doc & Cara rolled in and parked the "Ole' Tater Truck" next to us. Don & Leona parked the Metropolitan under the stairs. Mike (N4HHA) and daughter Kristen were to join us for the evening, Mike got busy with things that needed to get done, so he dropped Kristen off with us so that she might enjoy viewing the cars along with us. He would return later for the parade. 4:00 rolled around and we almost missed "Food Time" Tony & Sharon were home decorating for the Holiday Season and with "Lucy" getting her nose job they didn't have the Cruiser, we had no one counting down the time. Luckily Linda looked at her watch just about 4:00 and said it was time to eat, but then again we ate earlier. We then convinced ourselves that maybe that Fudge Cake at Flippers might be a good Idea, Kristen didn't need much convincing, so we headed back up there for desert.

On the way back down we checked out the other cars that had now started to occupy "Trophy Row". Kristen was making her list for Mike to ponder. So many cars so little cash, that is what I say. She agreed somewhat to that statement. Her choices were much like mine, I would like that one, and that one and that one. Once we were back at the car again, Gary & Wanda, in the '55 Chevy, joined in with us in block 4. A few more of our other regulars came in as well. about 6:00 we figured that there were more cars that filled in the spots in the top 3 blocks so we decided to see who came in. Tony & Marlene in their '30 Chevy came in as we were headed up. Chuck, who had been at Daytona all day, & Cindy gave a personalized tour of the T-Bucket to Kristen as did many others who's cars caught her eye. Then Bert came up to me and said that Ralph & Ulla were in town from Maine, he had battled some cancer and is winning. It sure was good seeing them, they should be back to Florida after the first of the year. Mike finally got his chores finished and made his way back to the Cruise. He and Kristen went up to get something to eat and she wanted to show her discoveries to him. Linda & I spent the rest of the evening chatting with all that stopped by to see us. Bill (WB4KBW) & Deyne along with his brother, Jim (N6NWO), who just got into to town for a visit from California, stopped to visit for a while.

The cars came in right to the closing of the gate, more than 150 cars would be hitting the bricks at "Cruise Time". Not to bad of a turn out considering that I personally know about 40 or more that were in Daytona. Just after 8:00 Nikki brought me the flag winners and at 8:15 Richard led Cruiser of the Month, Trish in her GTO to block 4 that becomes the staging area for this event that takes place each and every Saturday here at Old Town. Mike Singer, that had been entertaining us with his usual mix with a bit of added Christmas music since 5:00, gave the safety announcements, played the National Anthem, then "Wolfman Jack" proclaimed, "It's the Saturday Nite Cruise®". Trish rolled her GTO onto the bricks, followed by the rest of the "Stars" and their Cruisers to an enormous crowd of cheering spectators for this, the 857th running of the event.

Thank You, to Old Town, the merchants association, the sponsors, the Cruise Staff, the spectators and our fellow Cruisers for another great day in "Town".

On to the Flag Winners for tonight.

Tonight's random drawing winners that and received the coveted "Old Town Checkered Flag" along with $25 cash, A Case of Oil from NAPA and a drink from the Tropical Breeze.

Congratulations to the Checkered Flag Winners!
