November 18th
The Primrose Center, Inc. returned to Old
Town with their open show to raise money for the developmentally
disabled students at their school. All vehicles were welcomed to this
show that took place from early morning until 1pm. Butch & Jennifer,
WJBJ Cruisin' with
the Classics took care of the entertainment in their usual fashion
along with the give a ways and raffles. We did not attend
but got in on the tail end of the show and it looked like a very
successful one.
We arrived about 2:00 in "Elvira" our
'60 Ranchero, Steve Mc was behind us in his '62 Ranchero. There were
many Cruisers along "Trophy Row" and many of the regulars from Block 1 &
2 were early as they were involved in the earlier car show. Bob the ole
"Parrot Head" was out in his "Drop your Top" special along with a few
others from the Indian River Club, it has been a while since we have
seen them out, Long summer for many of them and they are looking forward
to Cruising a little more now that it has cooled off a bit. Roger had
his Chevy pickup out tonight, John & Angel actually had the same car 2
weeks in a row! John said he was going to keep this Monte Carlo for a
while. Not sure where most of our
F.A.C.A.C.A.
regulars were, Doc had his "Tater Truck", a 30 Chevy Prostreet parked
across from us. Joe & Kay had the "Raz Duo" that is the Opel GT and the
Corvette parked across form the Cruise Office. Tony & Sharon took "Lucy"
down for her "Nose Job" today. We should be seeing her back by the first
week of December. The high temperature was to only reach 70 degrees
today so we were ready with "Layers" to put on after the Sun goes down.
A few members of the
NASC
organization from the UK were with us tonight. They had a presentation
for later in the night. Linda & I made our rounds with the newsletters
and just before we were ready to head up to "Flippers" for dinner this
great '63 Falcon Country Squire came to block 4 and parked with us. This
was very rare as it was a 260 V-8 with Bucket seats and console with an
Automatic on the column.
On the way up to dinner we visited with
other arrivals, including a couple of modified Henry J's, Not as Pro
Street or Drag Cars but as honest to goodness "Retro Rods" one was a
coupe the other a convertible, "Frenched" in head lights and antennas.
Tonight we dinned inside,
Jane took great care of us once again, Thank you. We were done just
before 5:00 and we were able to watch the flow of cars enter for the
evening. There were 19 cars from a Pin-Mar Antique and Collectible Car
club from Pinellas County that wished to be parked together. The staff
put them across from our group in block 4. After we got back to our
cars, it was getting very crowded with spectators. Bill & Doris stopped
for their newsletters, they had been to a "Family Thing" up in Deltona
earlier in the day. The variety of cars was very good tonight, our
spectators including a gentleman from Germany who hadn't been to the
Cruise-In for 11 years would not be disappointed this evening. Mike
Singer, the "Voice of Old Town Radio" once again had Butch in the booth
with him tonight. Always a great mix but even better when the 2 of them
get together on the music we hear playing over the system.
Shortly after Nikki dropped off the
"Flag Winners" list to us, Richard led Trish in her GTO followed by the
rest of the Cruisers to Block 4, that becomes the "Staging area" for
tonight's parade. Butch gave the safety announcements and acknowledged
some Old Friends, played the National Anthem, then "Wolfman Jack"
exclaimed it was the "Saturday Nite Cruise®", Lee, who was at the turn
by "Kids Town" led the cars up the bricks of "Deac Hundley Blvd."
past a cheering crowd of spectators.
Thank you to Old Town, the merchants of Old
Town, the sponsors, all of the spectators, fellow Cruisers and the
Cruise Staff for making this the
856th running of the Saturday Nite Cruise another great
day in "Town". Even this, our 208th consecutive Saturday night, Linda
and I always enjoy or day.
Tonight's random drawing winners that and received the coveted "Old Town
Checkered Flag" along with $25 cash, A Case of Oil from NAPA and a drink from the
Tropical Breeze.
Congratulations to the Checkered Flag Winners!
