November 11th
Linda and I headed out to Old Town a little
early today in the Corvair, many of the other regulars we come out with
were in Harmony at their "Dark Skies" event. "Lucy" Tony (K4AVD) &
Sharon's (WB4ACE) '69 Ranchero is not back from cosmetic surgery yet. We
wanted to get the newsletters out a bit early as we were expecting
guests from the UK, Graham (G4HFG), the voice many of you have heard
coming out of the speaker mic on my shoulder most of the Cruises, Carole
and his mother Edith, to join us as well as Mike (N4HHA), Annette
(N4HHI) and daughter Kristen (TBA) to join us at "Flippers" for lunch
and a night at Old Town.
Lee met us at the gate, he was giving Ron a
break. His news on nephew John was
very good, he will be headed back to work soon. Brat checked us in
by the Haunted Mansion in a timely fashion,
we then made our turn on to "Trophy Row". There were 50 or more cars
already set up. The "Looney Bin" was fully occupied, even Bob the head
"Loon" was in his GMC. The Red Line Rodders were out in full force. Many
of the "Rat Pack" parked with them as well. Tony & Sharon arrived, they
took a break from the chores to come out and meet the UK guests and join
us for lunch.
We strolled towards the meeting place and
Linda & I delivered Newsletters and visited on the way as well as
directing the visitors over the HAM Radio. Shortly after 4:00 we all
were around the table, including "Malibu Mike". It was sort of a HAM
Radio Club meeting and a Florida Antique and Classic Automobile Cruisers
Association meeting rolled into one. Jane took great care of this party
of 11. We decided that she is the new "Official Server" for this group.
We were still dinning when the gate was re opened at 5:00. The cars
started to roll in quite heavy and did so for a while.
It was a leisurely stroll down to our car,
then again there were 11 of us trying to look at cars take pictures
visit with each other and Cruisers on the way. This experience was new
to 6 members of the party so it was with wide eyes and lots of
questions. We also took the time to round the corner by the roller
coaster to view many of the cars that got by us. Graham, Mike, Annette
and Kristen went over to see Mike's Motorcycle and Annett's Cooper. I
tagged along and took some photos of Graham on the bike. 7:00 brought
"Eddie and the Cruzers" to the main stage,
The Dukes to
the patio at "Fred Marion's".
The rest of the night was spent as usual
visiting with spectators and Cruisers along with our Guests. They all
hung around for the Cruise and Kristen was to ride with us in the
Corvair.
Just after 8:00 the flag winners were drawn,
Nikki delivered the winners list to me. Then at 8:15 Richard and Lee led
"Trish" in her '64 GTO, November "Cruiser of the Month" followed by the
Cruisers from the top 2 blocks to the staging area that Block 4 becomes
at this time. The safety announcements were made and Mike Singer played
the National Anthem followed by "Wolfman Jack" proclaiming "It's the
Saturday Nite Cruise!". Richard signaled the Cruisers to start rolling.
As the turn was made by "Kids Town" all were handed an American
Flag in commemoration of Veterans Day, then on to the bricks of
the West Side of "Deac Hundley Blvd." for this the the 855th "Saturday
Nite Cruise®" to a very large crowd of cheering spectators.
As always a great time in "Town". Thank You
to Old Town for making us, the Cruisers of the Stars, that come out each
and very week feel at home and to let all of us continue in the
success of this event for nearly 17 years. To the Merchants of Old Town,
the Sponsors, the Cruise Staff, spectators, our fellow Cruisers and
special guests for another Great Day. In "Town".
Tonight's random drawing winners that and received the coveted "Old Town
Checkered Flag" along with $25 cash, A Case of Oil from NAPA and a drink from the
Tropical Breeze.
Congratulations to the Checkered Flag Winners!
