The Saturday Nite Cruise®
Established in 1990
Rain or Shine, 52 Weeks a year!
Old Town Shopping Attraction.
East Highway 192
Saint Cloud, Florida

June 24th

That "weather disturbance: out in the Atlantic started moving towards us, it sent a lot of humidity using the "Sea Breeze" to get the inland showers started. 1:15 Rolled around, Steve Mc called to say that it was storming at his house some 12 miles to the east, Tony just a mile or so to the west said it was raining there as well. No rain at our house as we packed up the Ranchero to head out to Old Town. We called Tony as we turned on his street and as we got to his development he pulled in front of us to lead us to the Cruise. The roads were wet, this really is worse that a shower, this kicks all of the dirty water onto the cars. When we arrived at Old Town there were only about 20 other Cruisers along "Trophy Row".

Shortly after we parked in our regular spot behind "Black Hills Minerals" the rain came. It would then rain off and on until about 6:30. This weather took it's toll on the car count, it did not stop all of the spectators from coming out to look at the cars. Tony was hungry very early and Linda and I didn't see many regulars that are on the delivery list so we ventured over to "Flippers" for a early meal. Brandy was taking a break so we were served by Brenda, hope that is her name. She to did an outstanding job. I have never been disappointed by a meal or service at "Flippers". On our way back to our cars we did manage to get a few newsletters dropped off. "Big John" called us over to introduce us to a 1 of only 1725 ever built, 1955 Chrysler 300 and of course it's owners. David & Evelyn Broxterman and their 7 year old Poodle Skirt wearing, 55 Chevy Peddle car driving, old car enthusiast, daughter Brooke. New residents of Lakeland that brought this beauty out for the 4th time tonight. The raining conditions allowed me to get close enough to get some photos and chat with them. When David bought the car, there was a bit of trouble getting into the trunk. Once in the trunk, he found a brief case that was a "Treasure Trove" containing much memorabilia  about it's first owner. Enos Slaughter, NY Yankee, number 9, MVP for 1955. This car, in fact,  was given to him by the ball club. Just one of the items was the "Build Sheet" and the original title. The Broxterman's are very proud to be the 3rd owners of this, original, except for the carpeting,  bit of Automotive and Baseball history. Sometimes it is very nice to have a slow start to the Cruise so that I can bring you information  like this. It was the talk of the "Town" tonight.

Shortly after 5:00 Gary & Wanda rolled in with their "Rain Car" the '56 Chevy, "Remember When" being a black car would have gotten very "spotted" on the way out. Shortly after that John rolled in with his Mustang followed by Bo & Bob in the Corvair convertible. Bob's car is still in the middle of it's latest enhancements. Tony as the Event's Director of the "Florida Antique and Classic Automobile Cruisers Association" gave a presentation in front of the members present, he awarded the three of them with new name buttons, Moe, Larry & Curley Joe! This is what they are called at "Mustang Mike's", Saint Cloud Thursday Nite Cruise-In". When John is back in the Channel Islands, Bo & Bob are called "Waldorf & Astoria" after the two old men hecklers in the balcony from the Muppets. Paul & Betty joined us with her Mustang that was finally starting right.

Mike Singer could be heard on "Old Town Radio" he of course was playing his mix of music that we all love to hear. The "Dukes" were on the corner by the A&W singing the "Doo Wop" they Doo Soo Well. The "Repeatles" were on the main stage, much to the delight of the "Old Town Dancers".

We had some good news on Bert, from Laverne aka "Ernie" he has now been transferred to rehabilitation at the Palms. He is in room 301. Keep it up Bert.  Duke is still struggling we all miss the two of you.

Even though there were only 100 cars that made it out tonight, the spectators along "Deac Hundley Blvd." were still impressed with this the 836th running of the "Saturday Nite Cruise©".

Thank you, to the Staff and Merchants of Old Town as well as all of the great sponsors for having us out for yet another Great Day at Old Town.
