June 17th
With the temperatures near 90 degrees with
the lower humidity and not much chance of rain today should be a great
day for a Cruise. At our regular time We fired up "Elvira" our '60
Ranchero and headed out to meet up with Tony & Sharon and Steve Mc to
make our way to Old Town. Ed & Evelyn, who were also going to meet son
Ed and his wife Angie later in the day, would join us a little later.
Gary was still mowing the grass so he and Wanda would be out a little
later too.
As we rolled down the brick street to make
our way to "Trophy Row" Mr. Bill was on the street by the Coffee Shop.
ready to sign us in. Miss Lisa and Gary C. were in the Coffee shop.
Looked like a little planning strategy going on. Guess Gary must be
filling in for some one this week. The crowd looked a little light,
however the no chance of rain really doesn't mean much. It could be
raining just across the street. It is that time of the year. As we
rounded the corner by Cruise Control. there set the Corvair Greenbrier
that was "Big John's just a few weeks ago. Seems like it is his again.
John & Angel traded for a '60 Chevy Impala, some how it got back to "Big
John". Sometimes it is hard to keep track of the keepers of our "Stars",
the Cruisers of Old Town. Kathy C' dropped the gate for us to head
across "Florida Plaza " to our favorite place behind "Black Hills
Minerals", Thank You. John & Angel, Bill and Roger were in their
"Regular Spots" at the bottom of Block 3.
Tony & Sharon decided to join Linda and me
in our "Route" dropping of the newsletters. Not to many of the
"Regulars" were out yet. However we did spot Larry & Cris along with
Stephanie & Butch in their "Regular
Spots". Just up from them near John and his "Double Nickel Express"
several members of the "Rat Pack" were in place. Bobby G was up behind
the "Union Jack". It was such a beautiful day and still not to many
Cruisers.
Shortly after Gary & Wanda came in with
"Remember When", 4:00, our normal time to eat, we decided it was time to
head to "Flippers". Ed & Evelyn stayed behind to wait for Ed & Angie
that were to arrive around 5:00. On the way up we found out that Dave &
Arlene were going to be on vacation the next few weeks and Daryl had his
'59 Chevy in his spot keeping it warm for him. We made it to "Flippers"
and once again ate 'El Fresco", Brandy did a great job as usual taking
care of us. On our walk back at 5:00 the gate was opened. The cars
started to roll in. It was not a big line waiting to get in, the cars
just seemed to be a steady stream. Gary C. was in the place of Gary at
the Crossing of "Florida Plaza". Ron and John, AKA Larry & Curly, parked
near us. Bob, aka Moe, has his '36 Ford engine torn down for some
planned improvements. "Rusty Bones" took the Main Stage at 7:00, Jim and
Craig, the "Dukes" were on their corner by the A&W, Mike Singer could be
heard over Old Town Radio.
Mark stopped by for a while, he just got
back from Hawaii from his visit with his new Grandson. The spectator
crowd grew rapidly after 6:30 and many questions were asked. We all had
the right answers.
Tonight, Tony broke his perfect record of
over 4 years. HE FINALLY WON A CHECKERED FLAG! Not a bad
record to break. Right on time, Mr. Bill escorted the Cruisers down to
block 4, led by the Cruiser of the month. Then right after the playing
of the National Anthem, the 195 Cars that had assembled on "Trophy Row"
started to make the turn by "Kids Town" for this the 835th running of
the tradition that is the "Saturday Nite Cruise©".
Once again, Thank you to the Merchants of Old
Town, the Sponsors and the Cruise Staff for another Fun and Safe day.
