June 10th
After a long morning at Harmony, We headed
for Old Town and the 833rd running of the "Saturday Note Cruise©"
but just the 1st one as Richard as
the "Cruise Director" seems like the term "Cruise Master" has been
retired. Linda and I arrived, after a quick stop at home on the trip
from "Nearby Harmony", right at our usual time. We stopped and got the
latest scoop on Chuck, who is in the Hospital, from Mr. Bill & Lisa.
Once we turned on to "Trophy Row" we noticed that there were a lot of
empty spots. Just cones where we should have seen the "Rat Pack" and the
"Double Nickel Express". Seems that they were at the newest A&W just
down the street for a special event. They would all join us just before
the gate goes up at 4:00.
We were unsure as to how many of the 30 cars
we shared the morning event with would join us at Old Town tonight. Tony
& Sharon stopped by their house for a longer "Pit Stop" than we did.
Daughter, Leigh Anne and Grandson Gabryel were already awaiting our
arrival at the Cruise. It is always good when family come out to visit.
With last weeks Anniversary Cruise, causing
some people to be "Cruised Out", many other events going on in the area,
the heat and the smog from recent "Grass Fires" would take a toll on the
car count tonight. Tropical Depression One is dumping a lot of rain on
the Grand Cayman islands and nearing Cuba. It would be nice to get a
little precipitation from this storm, as long as it is not a real
"Windy" one. Florida is still pretty dry, however we did get a couple of
"Spotter Showers" or "Free Rinses" during the evening. It actually felt
real good and dropped the temperatures from the high 90's to the more
tolerable low 80's by Cruise time, Getting ahead of myself a bit here.
Larry, Curley and Moe, I mean John, Ron &
Bob rolled in just after the 5:00 gate re opening, they too were at
Harmony with us. The thought something was wrong after they came out
from eating in Harmony, the only thing that was in the area where we all
parked was the OCH, the ez-up by their cars and their cars only. Anyway
the got spots right next to us in our normal spot behind "Black Hills
Minerals". This was very nice to have them close to us. Most of our
regular "Crew" were burned out from the mornings events and did not join
in tonight. Not sure how Linda and I made it.
Mike Singer was playing his usual mix of
nostalgic music over "Old Town Radio" the spectator crowd was building
quite nicely. The "T-Birds" came to the stage at 7:00 to delight the
Cruisers and spectators as well.
Right on time, Mr. Bill lead the "General
Lee", yes it was an Orange '68 Dodge Charger Rebel Flag and 01 painted
on it, piloted by the latest "Cruiser of the Month", into the "Staging
Area" that all of "Trophy Row" becomes this time of the night. Then
8:32, right after the announcement of the Safety Rules and they playing
of the National Anthem, the parade started to roll towards "Kids Town".
This was Richard's first night at the "Turn" as the "Cruise Director".
The 169 cars made their way along the parade route without incident do
to the watchful eye of the "Cruise Staff".
Again I must Thank the Merchants Of Old
Town, the sponsors and the "Cruise Staff" for another safe and fun day.
