Linda was very sad that she couldn't
come along tonight, everyone asked about her, so that made her feel a
little better after I got home. We are both fighting this Cold and need
to be well enough for the "Run to Garlits" with FACACA tomorrow.
After taking a little while to get all things loaded and
setting up some of the new electronics in the Corvair I met Tony &
Sharon in our regular rendezvous spot on Carol Street where Thacker
Street T's into it. Today was to be the warmest Saturday of January, the
last 2 we nearly froze after the Sun went down. We arrived at Old Town
just about 2:00PM, Trophy Row was already very populated. Later today
the annual meeting of the Hudson club was to meet on the bricks of the
West lane of Deac Hundley Blvd. So Mike and Carol would not be parking
with us behind the "Black Hills Minerals".
Many "Snowbirds' are now making their way to the weekly
event. Today marked the 25th Anniversary of the DeLorean. Even though
his car is not eligible as a Saturday Nite Cruiser, for this event
exceptions were made. Eight of these cars in various condition were
lined along the Boulevard as well as leading the Cruise right behind Ron
Smith, January's "Cruiser of the Month" on the East Side of Deac Hundley
Blvd at 8:30PM.
Many of the "Drop your Top" gang was in place including Bob
"The Parrot Head" himself, in his T-Bird. The "General Store Gang" had a
few members tonight. Dan & Liz brought out the "All Steel" '27 roadster
to Old Town for the first time. Trevor, Bill and Virginia as well as Ed
& Evelyn joined Tony & Sharon and me in our regular spot. Terry had his
old Ford parked in with us as well. Gary & Wanda had the '56 Chevy out.
He is currently preparing "Remember When" for new paint.
The spectator crowd was very large tonight, I would almost
say it was of "Record" proportion. Butch & Jennifer, of Cruising with
the Classics" stopped by. Mike Singer was in rare form tonight on Old
Town Radio, The
Dukes entertained on their corner to a big crowd. "Still Kickin'"
was on the main stage, always a favorite of the "Old Town Dancers" and
the Cruisers as well.
On time and directly after the National Anthem, 333 cars
made their way around the back, winding to "Kids Town" to hit the
bricks, for the delight of all of those that inspected the cars all day
long, at this fifteen year plus tradition known as the "Saturday Nite
Cruise®".
Once again a big Thank You to the merchants of Old Town,
the sponsors and the entire cruise staff that make a Saturday a fun
filled and safe day.
