This has got to stop! 2 Saturday nites in a
row, winter had it's grip on Central Florida, this time with a bit of a
twist, Near tropical storm wind gusts prevailed throughout the day. This
of course didn't stop Linda and I from spending yet another Saturday
Nite at Old Town, in "Elvira" our '60 Flacon Ranchero this time. Tony &
Sharon flowed us out in their '69 Ranchero, "Lucy". Like last week there
wasn't to be many of our group out. Some do to the weather being to
cold, others because of being out of town. Trevor was glad that Bill and
Virginia were back from the "Sea Cruise', he misses all his friends. To
sum it up behind Black Hills Minerals, our normal spot, we had the 2
Ranchero's and the '29 Mercedes.
Several of the "Drop your Toppers" from Brevard county
rolled in, you guessed it, "Topless". None of the "General Store" gang
were to be seen, I guess we all have this aversion to cold weather. The
trick is in "Layering" but who would have thought we would have to worry
about that in Florida. Well, it really is just a few nights every
winter, not like "Up North".
We had quite a treat tonight, 3 Steam Powered cars were
lined up right by "Cruise Control", later the oldest one, a 1909 Stanley
Steamer and the big yellow '21 Double Steamer, an American Car, that had
been brought over from England to compete in Ormond Beach later this
month.
Needless to say, the spectator crowd was a little smaller
than normal due to the cold weather. Big John brought out his '69 Camaro
"Indy Pace Car", his time out kid seemed to have a bad case of GAS
whenever any one passed by or stopped to study this car.
The best thing about this 15 year old event is the people,
some have been out every week for months even years on end, there are a
few that would never miss a Saturday Nite, Rain or Shine. It is the love
of the cars and the friendships that are made amongst the Cruisers and
even the spectators that come out, even the Tourist spectators that make
this event a "Must Do" whenever they visit Central Florida. It is truly
an amazing blend of people that Linda and I a proud to be part of.
Right on time at 8:30 158 cars made their way on to "Trophy
Row" to roll past a enthusiastic and maybe a little cold, crowd of
spectators lined along "Deac Hundley Blvd".
Once again, a big "Thank You" to the merchants of Old Town,
The Cruise sponsors and of course Mike T. and the entire staff that
makes this event a safe and fun day.
