February 23rd
Old Town was very busy today, The "Wide
Track Warriors", Pontiac Club brought out more than 150 cars for the
days events. Also the Buick National Board Members and a third group,
The Southern SVT Lightning, showcased 75 - 100 Ford Specialty
Vehicles as well as a Dyno machine that measures cars velocity. Of
course this means that the "Regulars" and "Die Hards" were directed to a
different place to park as sort of a staging area. This included a trip
all the way down Deac Hundley Blvd. to "Kids Town", in the opposite
direction of the 8:30 Cruise. It was well planned out by the Cruise
Staff. Even Ron H. stopped each cruiser and told them that at about 3:45
to 4:00 that we would be directed out of this area in the order we
arrived. Should be a nice orderly plan that can work. PROBLEM IS!
Some of the ones that should know better, can't seem to follow
directions or the rules! I am not sure if they have special dispensation
or they are just crude. Come on Cruisers, lets not give each other a
hard time and especially lets not make Ron's job any harder than it
already is. This is a real peeve of mine, I am pretty sure the
Cruisemaster, Mike T. is not to fond of it ether, it is easy
to overwhelm one person with a car, or to Bully your way around others.
Most of the people that were in the "Staging Area" today are long
time participants and should be a little more
courteous to fellow Cruisers and set an example to any new cruisers that
joined in today.
By 4:00 most of the "Late Model" Pontiacs were gone from
"Trophy Row" the display of the SVT Cars in the West Parking lot had
started to thin out. Many of the '72 and Older Wide Tracks stayed to
finish out the night and hit "Cruise" on out of Town at the 8:30 trip up
the "Bricks". Many of the Regulars that come out after the 5:00
re-opening started to roll in. Many however displaced still were out to
have a great night at the "Old Town". Mike Singer was playing his usual
mix over "Old Town Radio" the main stage was to be home of "Topaz" at
7;00 and "The Dukes"
were due to appear on their corner by the A&W.
Trevor parked his '29 Mercedes next to us in out regular
spot on Block 4. Gary & Wanda were right across the street and later Bob
rolled in with his '36 Ford and found a good spot, the Beer Vendor had
packed it in for the night and left 3 prime spots open. Marlene
celebrated her birthday with Tony, Sherry & Ed and her '30 Chevy after
spending the day in Plant City in their Corvette.
Many new Cruisers and lots of "Snowbirds" made up the 230
plus cars that made their way around "Kids Town" for yet another
"Saturday Nite Cruise®". The near record crowd of spectators were
treated to a fantastic display of nostalgic cars and trucks all day long
and now they see them all roll past. Always a treat for everyone.
Thanks to the Merchants of Old Town and all of the sponsors
for having us all in town. A special Thanks to the "Cruise Staff" for
another fun and safe nite.Tonight's
random drawing winners that and received the coveted "Old Town Checkered Flag"
along with $25 cash, $15 "Cruiser Cash" and a drink from the
