Nothing Special tonight in Town,
Except for the over 300 cars that made their way to Cruise this 15 year
tradition. Mike T. was right about today's weather, it was truly
"Chamber of Commerce Weather". It sure was nice not to wear all of the
layers that we have had to in the past few weeks.
When we arrived about 1:45 with Steve's Blue and White
Ranchero behind us there were over 50 cars already lining "Trophy Row".
It was very easy to speculate that tonight was going to be a big Cruise.
Shortly after we parked in our "Regular" spots, behind "Black Hills
Minerals" a very shiny 1948 Western Flyer Coach parked across form us.
This "Short Bus" that was initially used for Canadian Military Officers
had Cruised with us in previous years. It would be very reminiscent to
the Busses used by the Greyhound our other Bus Lines in the late forties
and early fifties here in the US. John & Janice Wright of Bridgetown,
Ontario, Canada, enjoy taking their now modified bus to Cruise-In's all
over Canada and the United States. Thanks for bringing it out for us all
to see, the extremely large spectator crowd was very interested in as
well.
It was very nice to see every one in their "Regular" spots.
The "Drop your Top" gang had several cars out. The Ole Parrot Head
himself had his Red T-Bird right next to Tom's Cutlass Convert. The "Red
Line Rodders" were lined up with John right next to Bob & Marge. Even
Ben Franklin had the Tomato can right on the top of Block one. The
Zibrin brothers had a few of their cars out, Bruce was right across the
street with his "Spit Window" Vette. Then I saw several member of the
"General Store Gang" roll in, Starting with Dan & Liz in the '41 Willys.
It was very good to see all of the regulars including Dave & Arlene,
mixed with many of the "Snowbirds" that we get every year at this time.
Just before the gate went up at 4:00 Ed & Evelyn joined us,
Tony & Sharon walked in from spectator parking. They just took "Lucy".
their '69 Ranchero down to Don's for a new coat of paint. Gary & Wanda
came out in the 56 Chevy. "Remember When" their '55 Chevy is still
getting it's new paint. We all then wandered off to get something to eat
and watch those that didn't make it by 4:00 line up for the re opening
of the "Gate". We saw Bobby G. come in with his 54 Chevy, haven't see
him in a month or so.
After lunch we made our way back to our spot. Just after
getting back the cars started to roll in. This continuous flow did not
stop until 8:00 when the gates closed. "Eddie & The Cruzers" started to
rock the Main Stage and Jim & Craig, "The
Dukes" entertained on their corner by the A&W to a very large crowd
at 7:00 and the spectators just kept coming. The parking lots hit
capacity by 7:30 making for one of the largest crowds I have seen for a
"Regular Saturday Nite Cruise".
Once again, Thank You! to Mike T., Mr. Bill, Miss Lisa,
Ron, Tommy, Gary, Richard, Lee, Ben and the rest of the "Cruise Staff"
for keeping this chaos organized and keeping us all safe. Also a big
Thank You! to the sponsors and merchants for having us all out again for
this nearly 16 year old tradition. "The Saturday Nite Cruise®".
On to the flag winners
Tonight's
random drawing winners that and received the coveted "Old Town Checkered Flag"
along with $25 cash, $15 "Cruiser Cash" and a drink from the
Tropical Breeze.
Congratulations to the Checkered Flag Winners!
