December 2nd

When we arrived at Old Town, following Tony & Sharon in Steve Mc's Ranchero, Ron greeted us as usual, with that big smile, at the gate. Then to Bratt at the registration. "Deac Hundley Boulevard" was decorated very festively for this Christmas season. As we turned onto "Trophy Row" I figured it would be very occupied, there had been another car show in the morning and figured that there would still be the participants in the top 2 blocks. I later learned that the show wasn't as successful as they had hoped and it was cleared out by noon.

After parking our cars behind "Black Hill's Minerals", our regular spot. We then were speculating how many of our group would be out tonight. Linda & I headed out to deliver the newsletters. Bill had his '72 Chrysler parked at the bottom of block 3 next to a '72 Monte Carlo, can you believe it? John & Angel out in the same car for more than a month! Roger was in the 'Vette that he traded his '55 Chevy Pick up for. I guess it is time for the swap "Program" again. Hard to keep track again. As we moved our way up "Trophy Row".  Bruce was out in the "Split Window" 'Vette. Wax was spotted with his Nova, Jack & Gabe in the GTO Convertible. Gary & Kathy's Fairlane was seen as well at the top of Block 3. "Big" John's GT 350 convertible in his spot. The "Looney Bin" had 3/4's of the Loons in it. Bob in his GMC, Larry in the Mercury Convertible and Butch in the Gran Torino. Further up the Red Line Rodders were in place. It looked like it was going to be another great night in "Town".

After getting back to the cars, Stan stopped by with some sad news about Bill, our Friday Nite reporter. He had spent yesterday in diagnosis, looks like he is in for some surgery next week. Get Well, my friend. Our thoughts are with you and Doris. "Mustang Mike" AKA "Bu" parked next to me for a while then he went up to block 3 to park where he has been doing so for 10 years.  Gary & Wanda rolled in as we made our to way "Flippers" for dinner.

Jane took very good care of us once again, Nick had brought out our "Setups" and Menus. On our way back down after eats, we visited with many of the arrivals that had made their way when the gates opened at 5:00. As usual, Graham, (G4HFG) from the UK was on my shoulder as his voice could be heard coming over the speaker of my HAM Radio. He too visited with cruisers as we walked along. He and his daughter were looking at photos that they had taken at Old Town when on their last trip over.

Once we were back to block 4 we saw that Gary & Wanda took the spot that had been occupied by "Bu". We then were joined by Ron in his Corvair, John in his Mustang and Bob in his '36 Ford, that's right, the "3 Stooges" were with us once again. Always good see them out. John will only be with them one more week before he heads back to the UK. Neil & Elaine along with daughter Donna and granddaughter Amy, who is still wondering if Steve Mc will ever learn his colors, were out in both the Healy and the Triumph, this is their last Cruise before heading back to the UK on Tuesday. "Doc" was parked next to "Remember When" with his Purple, Nitro Burning, Full Blown 1930 "Tater Truck".

Right on time, Mike Singer gave the safety announcements a brief history of this time tested tradition, tonight being the 858th time, played National Anthem then "Wolfman Jack" proclaimed "It's the Saturday Nite Cruise", Nearly 200 cars would follow Doug, December's Cruiser of the Month in his '68 Bronco on to the bricks of the parade route up the West side of "Deac Hundley Blvd." past a large cheering crowd of spectators.

Thanks to the efforts of Old Town, it's merchants, the sponsors and the Cruise Staff it was another safe night at Old Town. Thank you to them for letting us be their guests and bring our "Stars" out to shine and to the spectators that come to see us in our cars as well as our fellow Cruisers for a fun day in "Town".

On to the flag winners.

Tonight's random drawing winners that and received the coveted "Old Town Checkered Flag" along with $25 cash, A Case of Oil from NAPA and a drink from the Tropical Breeze.

Congratulations to the Checkered Flag Winners!
