We arrived at Old Town just about 2:00, Couldn't
believe our eyes! Ed & Evelyn beat us to block 4 with their Corvair. Steve was
following in the "Real Steel 27", it was a very warm and windy day. "Uniques and
Antiques Car Club" lined the East side of "Deac Hundley" Blvd.
A memorial for Tom Staggs was set up across from "Cruise
Control", it was a display of photos and awards that Tom had won over the years.
Many members of the
"Vintage Vehicles Car Club" and the "Drop Your Top" gang, Cruised on over
today, He would have been proud. This event, you would think, might dampen the
mood of this Saturday. Well, it really did not, this "Family" of Cruisers,
turned the day to one of fond remembrances and camaraderie. This too would have
had Tom smile. His family TJ, Matt & Lori and Connie his wife Cruised his
Beloved '69 442 Olds convertible to Old Town. Tom will be missed, but he will
always be with us on a Saturday Nite.
Trevor made it out with Bill & Virginia just before 4:00, Jack &
Betty arrived with their "Little Deuce Coupe". Dale & Sandie followed them in
and parked along side us with their '27 Ford Tudor.
After the reopening of the gate at 5:00 the cars kept rolling in.
Gary & Wanda parked 'Remember When" just across from us, John, Pat an Dustin
bought out their '67 Mercury Capri. Parked near them was the matching Ford
version the Fairlane GT. Dan & Liz bought out the 53 Vette, Ron was in his '34
Ford.
The "Redline Rodders" were all parked in their "Regular" spots in
block 2. Ben Franklin had his new '40 Ford out. Louie Z was in the "Tike Hut"
Joe & Kay had her "Razz" Vette. Dave and Arlene had the '56 Mercedes. I spotted
"Miss Vicky", formerly Steve Mc's '55 Ford Crown Victoria. I didn't get to talk
to her new owner but he sure looked proud of her. "Mustang Mike" was out in Joe
Z's Mustang, good seeing you out.
Cruise time there were over 300 cars that would "Hit the Bricks",
following right behind Jose, our Cruiser of the Month was the Stagg Family in
Tom's Blue '69 Olds 442 convertible then the members of the
"Vintage Vehicles Car Club" followed by the "Uniques and Antiques". The
nearly record crowd of spectators cheered this display of "Rolling Automotive
History".
Once again a Great Day at Old Town, a day of remembering a member
if this "Cruising Family" lost but not forgotten. Thank You to the
merchants of Old Town and all of the sponsors that support this tradition and
especially the "Cruise Staff" for making it safe for us all to play.
We all know Tom will have the top dropped with the sunshine and
breezes always on him.
