The "Real Steel 27", the Orange 1927 Ford Model T, Streetrod,
piloted by Steve McCullough met up with Tony & Sharon in "Lucy" and Linda and me
in "Elvira" for our Saturday trip to nearby Old Town, about 1:30. The schedule
for Old Town today was to have the Saint Augustine Cruisers on the East side of
"Deac Hundley" Blvd. They were the guest club that would be leading the Cruise
right behind the "Cruiser of the Month". The Cadillac Forum group would meet in
Block 4 on the West Side. This left our "Regular" spot open on "Trophy Row"
behind Black Hill's Minerals. Ed & Evelyn were to join us, they have not been
out in several weeks due to that pesky Flu most of us had a month or so back, Ed
just waited a while to get it! Neil & Elaine would try and get spots nearby
after 5:00 or so. A few more of the regulars made their way on to "Trophy Row"
before the gates closed. Linda & I made our regular rounds delivering the
newsletter and chatted a bit with everyone we came across. The guys form
"Vintage Vehicles Car Club" AKA the "Drop your Top Gang" had several members
lined up in Block 2, We congratulated them on their event last week and told
them we were already looking forward to next years. The "Bass Master", Bob was
taking his nap by his Vintage GMC. We just dropped off the letters and let him
rest.
On our walk back from dinner, we chatted with many others in
this, our "Cruiser Family" and met the Moderator and event director for the
Cadillac Group. Andy & Mickey had pointed her out to us. We told her of the
difficulties that some had trying to contact them and offered to give them a bit
of a hand the next time if they would get us correct information to publish.
After we got back to our area we viewed many more friends bring in their
individual pieces of this "Rolling American History" that we all enjoy Cruising
and showing off. Out of the blue, over walks Mike & Carol with Bagel, in town
for the day from their new home in Tennessee! It was certainly nice to see them,
I know they only moved a few weeks ago but it is always hard to let good friends
go. With the internet and "National Plans" on cell phones at least we can all
stay in touch. "Big Jim" and Norma were out, with out any of their 3 Cruisers,
Norma took him out for a dinner on this, his Birthday. Happy Birthday Jim.
Craig and Jim, "The Dukes" set up on the corner by the A&W, many
of their fans were already in place for them to start signing. Mike Singer was
playing his usual mix over "Old Town Radio". The spectator crowd was building
fast.
Right on time, Mr. Bill walked the "Cruiser of the Month"
followed by the cars from Saint Augustine, then the rest of the Cruisers to
stage for tonight's event. Miss Lisa came by on time with the Flag winners list
for me, not on it again! Oh, well, but there were eight others that were. NAPA
has brought the case of Oil, always a favorite prize, back to the prize booty.
Thank NAPA, thanks for your support. 8:32 brought the start of the parade down
"Deac Hundley Blvd," better known as the "Saturday Nite Cruise®". 300 cars would
roll past a very large crowd of people that had been waiting anxiously for this
weekly spectacle, a tradition that has taken place every Saturday Night for
nearly 16 years.
Thank You! to the merchants of Old Town, the sponsors, the entire
Cruise Staff and the Cruisers for another fun and safe Saturday at Old Town.
