Now this is what I call the perfect "Spring Day"
Saint Cloud had the first day of it's "Spring Fling" that many Cruisers made
their way too. This made "Trophy Row" fill up a bit early. Linda & I arrived
about !:45 with Tony & Sharron in Steve Mc's '62 Ranchero, their '69 Ranchero,
Lucy" is still in Don's care, getting her new coat. Steve, Ed & Evelyn, Gary &
Wanda and Randy were coming directly from the "Spring Fling: to meet up with us
about 3:00.
In a letter enclosed in the latest issue of "Mike Kelly's Cruise
News" was the official notice that Mike T. would be leaving us right after the
"Sweet Sixteen" anniversary Cruise this June. We all know Mike has done a
fantastic job with this "Tradition". Richard Stewart was named as the new
Cruisemaster taking over these duties when Mike T. moves on up the road. For
those of you that do not know who Richard is, I offer you the following. Richard
a long time local Cruiser has been a member of the Cruise Staff on Friday and
Saturday nights and most recently has been in charge of the "Spectator" parking
and audience control during our pre Cruise "Staging" and has filled in for
Mike, Joe, Bill and Ron over the past four years. He of course will have to have
the best interests of Old Town in mind, after all even though our cars are the
"Stars" we are here as their guests, he has worked the event at all levels and
knows what he needs to get the job done. I know there are many of us, that
include members of the "Cruise Staff" and "Cruisers" alike, that would have
liked to have the chance at this responsibility, I know Richard will lend an ear
to suggestions that he can take up with the "Powers to Be" to perpetuate this
Cruising "Tradition" safe and smooth running. For what it's worth, I give
Richard my "Seal of Approval" and will support him as I did Mike T. and Old
Town. So lets all say "Welcome Richard and Good Luck."
As Linda & I delivered the Newsletters to the "Regulars" the
"Drop Your Top" gang, AKA
"Vintage Vehicles of Florida, Inc." was in place in the new "Turf" that
they chose a few weeks ago. They were answering a lot of questions about their
up and coming
31st annual Indian River Car Show in Titusville. This sure sounds
like a good time. Bob, Jack & Tom assured me that if Tony & I can get them a
tentative number of cars for the
FACACA "Run to the River" that they would keep us together in the Show
Field.
Most of the rest of the "Die Hards" had their normal parking
spots as we dropped of the newsletters. At first we didn't see Ben Franklin and
his Tomato can at the top of block one so we thought he was not with us again
this week. He was, the Tomato can was driven by his son, without the trailer and
he and Joy brought out his latest ride. A '40 chopped Ford Tudor. Yes, it's Red.
Dan & Liz rolled in in the '53 Vette and took their position next
to Bob and his Camaro. Later Ray & Carm made it to the "General Store Gang"
area. Ron & Rose came out a little later and didn't make to where they park nor
did "Big Jim" and Norma. Hey at least we were all there! Along with nearly 350
cars to give our spectators a display like they have never seen, once again.
The T-Birds rocked the main stage, Mike Singer played his
nostalgic mix over Old Town Radio and Jim & Craig,
"The Dukes" entertained
a large crowd on the corner by the A & W.
Tonight marks another night that will be the last of the season
for many of our "Snowbirds". Next year we will know some of them by what they
drive, others like John & Sandy Foster might have replaced their Cruiser a few
times over. They have promised to e-mail me before they come down next year with
what they are driving.
Thank You to Old Town and their Merchants for having us out for
another Saturday Night and letting our cars be the "Stars", to the Sponsors that
provide us with all of the goodies we can win. To the entire "Cruise Staff", Mr.
Bill, Miss Lisa, Lee, Ron, Richard, Ben and Mike T, just to mention a few, for
handling all of the traffic and keeping all of us and our spectators safe.
