The Friday Nite Cruise
At Old Town
West Highway 192
Kissimmee, Florida

January 13th

One could say Friday the 13th is an unlucky day and with the weather forecast for Friday night it would be hard to argue the alternate viewpoint. The weatherman said it would be cold and rainy. Well he was right and he was wrong. The evening was cool and we had a rain shower that passed between 4:30 and 5:30 but over all it was not a bad evening for a car cruise. The weather was enough to keep many people home for the second cruise of the new year. We had a total of 71 cruisers that registered for the event Friday night.

Most of the cruisers in attendance were our Friday night regulars that very seldom miss a Friday night at Old Town. There were however a few vehicles that I had not seen before. We are also seeing more and more of the nice 2005 Ford Mustangs showing up. That retro styling is awesome. Friday night we had one dark blue 2005 Mustang GT fastback that is really sharp. We also had two Rousch edition 2005 Mustang fastbacks that were in attendance as well. The first one was white with blue Lemans style racing strips and the other was a light blue fastback. Jack Rousch did a nice job with his custom Mustang packages and they really compliment the retro looks of the stock Ford. Also in attendance Friday night were between five and ten mid eighties Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS coupes. A few of them were t-tops and the rest regular roof editions, but all of them were in nice shape. With only 71 cruisers it was a relatively short cruise, but there were a few who persisted in racing their engines during the cruise. It makes for a difficult cruise because you can't hear the comments from the spectators and after about five minutes of revving engines is enough to give you a headache. The only thing that I think is more annoying are the strobe lights from the car in front or behind you. The strobe lights are okay when all cars are parked but I find them very distracting when trying to drive in the cruise and I for one would like to see Old Town restrict their use during the cruise. When the cruise was over we had four checker flag winners who claimed there flags and prizes. We also did not have a winner for the cruise-a-matic drawing. Therefore the total to be won remains at 1000 dollars. The checker flag winners were Bobby Holder with his aqua 1973 Mercury Cougar hardtop. Bobby is no stranger to the stage on Friday night and continues his winning ways again in 2006.

The second flag winner was Nick Magmer with his white 1995 Chevy S-10 pickup lowrider.

Dave Scord won a flag with his gold 1983 Mercury Grand Marquis four door sedan.

Alan Savoie took home the last flag with his white 2004 Dodge Ram SRT/10 Quad cab pick up. Having access to Tags With Class (family business), you know that this truck would be tricked out. In addition to the V-10 under the hood this one had custom taillights, step rails, rear spoiler, and a nice sound system.

This concludes my first column of the new year. I am still suffering with my asthma and allergy related illness, so I can't wait for the warm weather to return. So until next week have fun and cruise safely.

Tonight's random drawing winners that and received the coveted "Old Town Checkered Flag" along with $25 cash, a case of Valvoline 20W50 Racing Oil and a drink from the Tropical Breeze.

Congratulations to the Checkered Flag Winners!
