60% chance of rain, we even drove through a shower or two
on the way. Just about 4:30 the skies lightened up a bit and the rain
stopped. John, (KG4BFJ), regular spectator and friend of the Cruise-In
was one of the first to arrive. Just before 5:00 we decided to go over
to the Sonic and get something to eat. Then I heard what sounded like a
B-52 Bomber, it was the 4 barreled split exhaust "Blue Flame" powered
'55 Chevy 4 door of Nicky "Bop's". First time in a while for him to make
it out. It was also his son, Manny's birthday, so it was a guys night
out for them. Bob rolled in driving his Pickup, the '36 Humpback
is getting closer to being finished. He has been helping out Mike with
the ticket sales in the trailer. While at the Sonic, Nicky mentioned
that he had just talked to Tony & Marianne and they were on their way
out, the rain had stopped in Daventucky. I noticed Doc in his S-10 and
Bob came over from his SSR to eat. Steve Mc parked his '27 Model T Grin-ster*,
Hot Rod under the canopy behind the Cruise lot. He had encountered a
little rain on the way to the Cruise-In and a little dark cloud had
followed him, he was just going to wait until it went away. Tony called
on the radio to mention that him & Sharon finally were on their way. By
now, around 5:45 a few more cars started to show up. I then
noticed it was official, it wasn't going to rain anymore, Paul was
backing up his DeSoto into it's spot. John from the Channel Islands
arrived in his Mustang Convertible, back in town for a few more weeks.
Welcome back! Bill had the photos of the Blazer taken after the Deer had
run into him. All is fixed now. Phillip & Louie had their cars in the
front row near Nicky. The Wookie came out in his Expedition, still no
Buick and he didn't want to get his Mustang wet. awwww. Bert & "Ernie"
had the Probe out, and he was sporting his new leg. He was even dancing
last Saturday night. They are off to Indiana late next week. Larry &
Barbra and several of the Grandkids were present. Mike had his Hot Rod
next to Steve's. but not before Tony & Marianne backed the '71 Monte SS
into it's spot. Roger had the '56 Chevy out. Roy was parked across from
Don's 2+2, so, many of the regulars were out. The Clarke's came a little
later as did Al in his Model A. Jim & Peggy had the GTO out. Ron &
Shirley stopped in about 7:00 or so, Ron is "Shiftless" for a while, re
cooperating from arthroscopic surgery on his right shoulder. Heal
quickly, my friend. John B. made it out in his '66 Vette as did Don
Fetty, in the T-Bird! Bob B. had photos of his new daily driver,
the Chevelle is still blocking his Camaro in the garage.
It always seems that it takes a few Cruise-In's after a
couple of rainouts to get back on track, it is still always a good time
with friends on a Thursday Night. If I missed anybody, sorry I am
getting Old you know.
With only 25 cars we still had $65 to give out as cash
prizes and $65 in the 50/50. The "Wookie" had the winning ticket for it
and the "Cruiser of the Week" went home with Don Fetty in his '62 Ford
Thunderbird. Cruiser # 363, Tony Catledge wasn't out so next week the
"Cruise-A-Matic" rolls up to $200.
Here are a few photos.
*Grin-ster. it seems that any one that drives it gets a
grin like Mike has below.
