May 25th
The dark clouds were all
around us, the weather man told us there was a 40% chance of rain. Linda & I
rolled in to the parking lot about 4:25, Duke was at the Sonic, "Jalopy
Jim " arrived in "Mustang Mike's" rig just about 4:30. The decision was
made to set up. Mike is still out
sick, he waited a while to get that Flu bug most of us had earlier in
the year. Shortly after the setup, Paul came in in the '58 DeSoto. Ed &
Evelyn came out in the Aqua Corvair. Ron Hood made his last Thursday
Nite Cruise-In before their "American Journey". He & Shirley are leaving
on the long planned trip on Tuesday. He will send a few e-mails to keep
us up to date. Nicky "Bop" parked next to Tony & Marianne. "Rocco" came
out with him. "Rocco" will be a house guest of Tony (K4AVD)
& Sharon until the 3rd of June. The
Clarke's' were also in the front row. Alexis, our granddaughter joined
us tonight and assisted with newsletter distribution. Mike (N4HHA) and
daughter Kristen, who turns 17 tomorrow and has claimed the '21 Overland
that Mike will be restoring, joined us for a night of Old Cars and the
people that like them.
Bill (N2WFU) Virginia (W2VEJ) & Trevor have arrived safely
in New Jersey and have almost completed the unpacking for their "Summer
Stay". They all say Hi to all of their "Florida Friends".
Mid Florida Corvettes brought out a dozen or so of those
"America's Sports Cars", this being the last Thursday of the Month.
Thanks' Guys! Tony & Marlene, still sans "Cletus" , brought out
their Vette and parked behind Ed and Sherry's Red Vette. The couple that
"Mustang's together stays together, Paul & Betty had their "Drop Tops"
side by side. Scott had his "Rod" down by Jimmy's Model A & Russ. he
left the "Wild Thing" at home tonight. Steve (K4SKM) in his Ranchero was
parked near Paul & Tommy. Across from them was Pete and Re Pete, I mean
Bob & Ron. They all kind of "Hung" around the only big shade tree. Bob
had his Camaro in it's usual spot. Big Jim had out the Pro-Street
Beretta, that was about it along the 192 Side Row. Louie came out in his
"52 Ford. Al & Aggie in their Model A. Gary & Wanda had "Remember when"
their '55 Chevy next to Ron's '53. Gordon & Lila, who are the original
"Mr. & Mrs. Desoto", married for 63 years, brought out their 55 & 56
DeSoto's and Marsha had her '49 Desoto. Gordon turns 87 next month. Greg
from Wolfman's Rod Shop brought out a '72 Mustang, haven't seen him in a
while, he now has a big place in New York.
With a small crowd there was still a lot of activity,
Ashley & Shelby danced for us. Craig. the "Duke of New Jersey" stopped
by for a visit. He is headed for New Orleans for a week end with his
wife who is working for FEMA. Jim and Craig,
"The Dukes",
sang a few songs for us, this is always a treat. I know there was so
much more going on, in fact I was more than likely in those
conversations, but I forgot some of them, senior moment. So, I guess we
can have those conversations next week, again!
Tony was very busy signing up Cruisers for the Flag day
Festival in Harmony on June 10th. 18 Cars so far, if you are interested,
please contact him and join in. Spectators are also welcome, check
out the "Town of
Harmony" for the day's events schedule.
Due to the small turn out, by the way we did have a few
sprinkles but all that stayed had a great time, and the fact that we
didn't have any shoppers out tonight the 50/50 was all cash. 50 cars or
so. made the 50/50 $80. Not bad for a small group.
Wouldn't you know that the first cash prize of $25 was
taken home by Al! I didn't track the other smaller prizes that went down
to $10. The $80 ticket was held by Ron Hood, good to get a little extra
cash before leaving on their Journey. He graciously donated $10 to this
publication.
The $25 "Cruise-A-Matic" would have gone home with Jack
Smith, Cruiser #652 but he was not out tonight. So next week it
rolls up to $50.
"Cruiser of the Week" went home with Stephanie & Butch
Tengelin, #774 and their '64 Dodge Dart GT. (I called it a Falcon,
inside joke, ask them about it.)
The "Duke" Davis Cruiser of the Month" went home with Bob
Nagro, #510 and his Bowtie powered '36 Ford Humpback.
Here are a few photos.

By the way, the (N4HHA) behind Mike's name is his amateur
radio operators call sign. You may have seen them in past issues. I
have started to include them behind the names of Cruisers that are also
"Ham Radio Operators". This hobby seems to be a natural "Crossover"
hobby. This is why you have seen many of the cars sprout antennas over
the past few years.
I was really impressed by that '61 Olds that was parked
along 192, this Survivor car had a body mount whip antenna on it and it
sported a vintage Citizen Band Radio in it. I tell you it took me back
to my youth. I never ran into the owner, not sure who's it was, Thank
You!
Thank you to all the Cruisers for making tonight another
fun night, Many Thanks to our Sponsors and Supporters over the last
several years.
Congratulations to the winners, see you all "Out
There"
