June 29th
Afternoon showers,
looked like many more to come. Butch & Stephanie were the first to
arrive. Slowly a few more Cruisers started to show up. others called.
Then as a few of the Corvettes rolled in from the Mid-Florida Corvette
Club. the Sun came out. The sprinkle of rain stopped shortly after that.
About 6:30 "Mustang Mike" started up the entertainment.
Doc was in his S-10, this will be daughter Cara's last
Cruise-In before moving to Daytona. Bob (Moe) was the first of the Three
Stooges to call in and arrive, just a few minutes later John, (Larry),
and Ron, (Curley Joe), arrived in the Mustang and Corvair. The
collection that "Mustang Mike" was taking for Duke was already growing.
His memorial Service is scheduled for Saturday, 6:00PM at the Fisk
Funeral Home, 1107 Massachusetts Ave, in Saint Cloud.
More than a dozen "Vettes were in place in the 2nd section.
including regulars Tony & Marlene as well as Ed & Sherry. Clay came out
during the rain to monitor the weather before bringing out his "Topless"
'59 Corvette. Just about the time the music started he rolled in in the
beaming sunshine in that Silver Corvette. Don was out sans the T-Bird, I
thought I saw big Jim for a minute. For a while we had as many Cruisers
without cars as there were with. Larry & Chris brought out their vary
rare '79 Mustang Cobra. It had a big rinse on the way to the Sonic.
Tony reports that there are many cars going to the Winter
Haven Cruise on Saturday Nite, a few have canceled to pay respects to
Duke while others are going to pay respect by taking to the road and
"Cruising", that is what Duke was about, a Car Cruise. They plan on
having a memorial for him and let Butch and Jennifer know of his
passing. Ron & Lee from the Old Town Staff stopped by after Chucks
viewing, that was at 6:00.
Even with only 25 Cars and several Cruisers without cars,
we had a 50/50 of $85! Plus the collection for Duke. This group tonight
was very big hearted for sure.
"Pony Girl" one of the "Mustang Twins". Betty Kemp, Cruiser
#229 had the winning ticket for the 50/50, she donated $10 towards the
newsletter. Thank You. This will come in handy for her upcoming trip.
Where's the "Wookie", what Buick? Well Chris Guglich,
Cruiser #131, his other half would have gone home with the $150 tonight
but neither of them were out. Awwwwww.
Betty Kemp, "Pony Girl" really had the luck tonight, she
was this weeks "Cruiser of the Week" with her '65 Mustang.
On July 13th, Jim Craig, the Duke of Boston" and Dana King,
a former member of the "Dukes of Harmony" will give us an hour of live
entertainment starting at 6:30, be sure to come out and hear this. July
20th will be the "Rain Date".
