July 27th
Again it looked as
though it was going to be a rain out. The showers might go to the South,
this is always a hope we have.
Linda & I arrived at just before 4:00, we needed to get a
little shopping done before the Cruise-In. "Mustang Mike" pulled in
shortly afterwards. Ken pulled his pick up in next to "Elvira", Tom was
wearing his newest Mustang Convertible, the X-Squad car we will see him
in next time. Paul called to say that Tommy went to Jacksonville and if
he came out it would be in the Van rather than the DeSoto, he said Bill
was on his way out as I saw him pulling in. Bob called me to see how the
weather was, he decided to come on down. Steve Mc parked his '27 T under
the canopy at Sonic to see what the weather was going to do. Jean is
still waiting for Scotty to finish up on her '36 so she was out in her
Pacifica. Stephanie rolled in with the Gran Torino. Ron was another one
of the first to arrive in the DelRay. Mike delayed the setting up of the
music. Ed & Evelyn came out in the daily driver, it was time for Trinny
to go back home, she had a great visit with Michelle. Dana came out to
join in. Always good seeing him and his interactions with Mike and the
rest of the Cruisers. Ed & Sherry came out a bit after several of the
"Mid Florida Corvettes" set up in row 2. Tony brought out his "Vette and
parked next to him. The we saw "Cletus" the 30 Chevy, piloted by
Marlene. She parked way down in Hot Rod row. Of course Tony & Ed had to
give her a hard time about parking way down there. She then moved the
car closer to the others. The "Guys" went over with a tape measure to
make sure she was parked correctly. Doc mentioned that Cara would be
back with us next week, she didn't like Daytona Beach. I'd like to think
she missed her Cruiser friends. Tony & Sharon arrived and the 4 of us
went over to Sonic joined by spectator John, KF4BFJ, a regular as of
late. While we were eating the clouds started to move away.
Bert & "Ernie" were out in the HHR, good to see them back
on a Thursday! The Clarke's had the great yellow deVille parked up by
the trailer and of course the "Heart Breaker" was parked by the trailer
by the "Wookie" before Chris came and carted him off for dinner. Jim &
Martha Hicks with a '63 Ford Fairlane 500, that his father bought new,
joined us tonight. Welcome. Tony was busy contacting Cruisers to Join in
on the trip to the "Plant City Car Show" on the 19th of August. Him and
Ed are always putting these trips together, kind of nice to take the
cars on the road once and a while. Cris brought out the '79 Cobra, Larry
was to hot to come out tonight. So it was a ladies nite out for
Stephanie & Cris. Louie had his '52 Ford and Phillip and Frances were
out in the Camaro. Roy had the '56 Chevy and a bunch of grandkids out
with him tonight. Roy Jr. & Stella had special guests from England. At
least they found some one that spoke like them (Linda), everyone else
seemed to speak "Funny".
For a small Cruise it sure was a good one. I try to
remember all that takes place but ultimately I do forget a few things,
Like Jimmy in his Tudor Street Rod came out tonight as well and that '61
Falcon of George's could be seen near the Corvettes. Larry, Barbra and
many of the sons and daughters along with the grandkids were out after
returning from a vacation in Michigan.
The slow start to the "Cruise-In" tonight still netted us
nearly 40 cars and many spectators and Cruisers with out their "Vintage
Iron".
The 50/50 that grew to $134 was won by Roy Fitz, he donated
$20 to this newsletter, Thank you! It looked like the grandkids were
going to get some of it too.
The $75 in the "Cruise-A-Matic" rolled up to $100 for next
week. Cruiser # 539, Michael Stukonis wasn't out tonight.
"Cruise of the Week" went to "Car 54" Bert and "Ernie"
(Laverne) Brown.
Here are a few photos.
