February 23rd
Winter arriving again
later this evening, the forecasters promised all day long. It was a
beautiful day when we climbed into "Elvira" our 60 Ranchero. We were
just about to merge into traffic on Carroll Street,
as I shifted into second gear, this sound that did not
sound good at all came from beneath us. Lots of "Heavy Metal Sounds" and
not of the musical variety. That tell tale smell of Hypoid surrounded
us. I quickly pulled into the nearest driveway. After resetting the
linkage I tested the gears, No 1st, No 2nd, No Reverse but I think I
have a little bit of 3rd. Well I limped the old Ranchero back to it's
parking spot under the carport and watched more of the fluids drain onto
the concrete. Linda and I then re- loaded all of the things we needed
for the Cruise-In into the Corvair and headed to Saint Cloud. Enough of
this!
As we arrived about 4:15 Mustang Mike and Duke were already
setting up. Brian was out in his Nova, Hmmm, Where was Trevor, their
spot was empty. Paul rolled in with his DeSoto, Bill navigated the "Blue
Kahuna", I mean his ' '72 Chrysler into the "Cruiser of the Week" spot
in front of and beyond the trailer, past Mike's Pickup and on and on.
Good thing Tony & Sharon's Ranchero is still getting her new coat, this
big Mopar blocked the front of their parking spot as well. Linda and I
decided it was time to get an early lunch, Ron & Rene Adamson joined us
at the Sonic. While we were eating the lot started to fill up. Cars that
we have not seen in a long time and other cars that had never Cruised
with us. Several members of the Owensboro, KY. Car Club joined in with
Ellis and Nikki, also from Owensboro. Always good to see them with us.
Cars changing hands all over the place this week. "Blanche"
Steve Mc's Yellow Model A is going to a new home. Tommy's Belvedere will
be going to Owensboro. Gary & Wanda's '56 might be transporting Larry.
Whew! One needs a guise to keep up with all of this.
Barbra V. was out walking around tonight. Looks like the
recovery is coming along nicely, not quick enough for her though. Gary
and Chris our Regular shoppers did a great job on the door prizes as
usual. Len S. has a Transmission for "Elvira" he should be bringing it
to Kissimmee next week! Thanks !
The Corvette Club had a whole row plus. What a display of
this Great American Sports car. They always come out on the last
Thursday Nite of the month as a club. Many members are weekly regulars
as well.
Tom Hartwig, Cruiser #265, was the winner of the "Beef
O'Bradys" gift certificate for being the first to have tonight's trivia
question answer. Al Wendling was the winner of the $138 50/50. The $50
"Cruise-A-Matic" would have gone home with Cruiser #121, Tony Gonzalez,
if he would have come out tonight.
The "Cruiser of the Week" went to Cruiser #634, George
Crofut, with his 1961 Ford Falcon.
Oh, we never did get any of that Rain, or Winter that the
weather man promised. More than 100 cars "Cruised in", Good friends. old
cars, always a good time.
Here are a few photos.
