August 10th
What a beautiful
day! Temperatures around 90, slight breeze, I know I am starting to
sound like a broken record but that is what it is. The afternoon showers
seem to be on a hiatus for a bit. Linda & I arrived a bit after 4:00,
Bill already had his "Blue Kahoona" parked in it's usual spot. "Mustang
Mike" had the cones set out and it looked like a Cruise-In was going to
happen here in the parking lot next to the Sonic. A lot of Cruisers are
out of town on vacation, including Tony & Sharon that headed to
Wisconsin, sure hope they got off the ground on time with all of the
added security.
Paul, Tommy and Bill pulled into the shade down in what
used to be "Corvairville", looks like it has been taken over. Across the
way is "Hot Rod Row" all the way up to Paul's Desoto, then it seems to
be Mopars! It is nice when the Cruisers move around a bit, people then
think that different cars are here in the summer. Steve Mc had the "Real
Steel" Model T out tonight, Ron had his 'Vair next to Doc who had
the S-10. Mike & James visiting from Tennessee were out seeing everyone,
they had been to the Cruise last night as well.
Tony brought out "Cletus" and parked next to us, his
parking job wasn't any better than Marlene's. I guess that old Chevy
just steers hard when backing up. Ken had been out a little earlier and
said it was just to hot and went home. This is what some of the others
must have thought tonight. The "Car Count" was not building as much I
thought it would. The "Wookie" didn't even have any of the Buick out
tonight. John, last weeks would be winner said it was well worth the
$100 he didn't take home to be involved in Dustin's, his grandson and
Cruising buddy, education. Ed & Sarah called and were disappointed
because they were going to bring out the Starfire tonight but he twisted
his knee the other day and the swelling just won't go down yet.
Bert & "Ernie" are starting to get the Probe all set for
Cruising on a Friday Nite. They wish to thank everyone that has been so
supportive during his hospitalization and recovery for all of the
financial and emotional help, that has been given to them from all
of their "Cruising Friends", they don't think they could have made it
back without all the friendship that is truly the measure of being
"Rich".
Richard the "Ice Man" made it back out tonight, we haven't
seen him since March. Trevor called me on Tuesday, O.K. it was really
Bill, and told me that Bill & Virginia got married in Las Vegas at Noon
on the 8th and they all miss the gang in Florida and will be back in
sometime in late October.
Friday Nite Live downtown Saint Cloud, on September 8th,
Mike has entry blanks in the trailer. He promised to get me copies to
use as a centerfold this week.
Tony & Marianne debuted their newest car. A 1971 Chevrolet
Monte Carlo SS (Clone), it is Black on Black and has a Big Block. Great
looking Bow Tie. They can now Cruise on a Saturday Nite with the rest of
the bunch from here. Jerry had his Mopar out for the first time on a
Thursday. We had seen it first last Saturday Nite.
Ed, Evelyn & Michelle were out for a bit in their daily
driver, Ed has just been swamped with work, out there at the Institute.
Warant & Kathy showed up just about the time of the drawings, in the
daily driver, they have a '47, '57' and a '67 car. Hmmmm. I know they
were out shopping and then remembered it was Thursday, good to see them
any time.
Special ticket pullers, Ashley and Shelby took over so
Frick could set by Frack and properly harass "Mustang Mike" during the
closing tonight. The 50/50 was at $147 and the "cruise-A-Matic" was at
$125. Regular supporters food giveaways were offered first.
Roy Fitz had the winning ticket for the 50/50 and no
grandkids tonight so he gets to keep it all, he then donated back $20 to
the newsletter. Thanks Roy.
"Mustang Mike" read the winning number for the
"Cruise-A-Matic" #444. It was announced wrong the actual winners would
have been Bob & Peggy Leopold, if they would have been out. The page
must have changed on Mike, he announced it as Liz Stubbe who is # 712,
she wasn't out ether . Anyway next week there will be $150 in the
offering.
"Cruiser of the
Week" went home with Cruiser #452, Louie
Piazza in his '52 Ford Customline.
Congratulations to all the winners and a big Thank You to
the sponsors, supporters and spectators of this weekly event that
we all enjoy. Thank You to the Cruisers for coming out, more than 50
cars tonight, and for the donations to the newsletter that I received in
person and anonymously in the donation can. I would like to keep this
newsletter going and the donations are a big help.
Welcome back, Cara!
