December 13th
Other than the fact that some of us with these Old Cars
have to remember that the technology in the fuel sending units isn't
very good, even though it was "State of the Art" when manufactured.
Especially after being in service for 45 years. Well, as Linda & I were
on our way to the "Square" I found out that yet another way of
deciphering the gauge needed to be considered. Seems like now when the
gauge indicates just under a quarter of a tank it now means "WALK" or
Bone Dry! The little Corvair squeezes nearly 27 Miles to the gallon in
town but it does need a gallon to do so. Fortunately I was near "Big
John's" house and he was gracious enough to run a can of gas out to me,
while waiting for him "Mustang Mike" pulled in with the DJ rig to see if
We were OK, there was less than a gallon in the can John had in his
garage, not enough to get the car running, he then went and filled that
can up and brought it back. I guess the first little fill was enough to
fill the lines but not keep the car running. Once the 5 gallon can was
put in the tank the little opposed 6 cylinder engine fired up and off to
the "Square" we headed.
Paul was the only one parked when we arrived, the skies
looked as though it could rain. Then it cleared up. The evening would
turn out to be great weather. The rest of the Cruisers were a little
later than normal. Steve Mc came out in the "Rat". Bert & Ernie had his
Mom, Sister and Brother-in-Law with them tonight. Always good to see
them in town from Indiana. Most of the Regulars that come out each week
like Louie in his '52 Ford, Larry in his '70 Chevy Stepside, Don in the
2+2 Mustang, Ron in his '61 Caddy, Roy in his '56 Chevy, The "Mustang
Twins" in Paul's '66 Mustang, Bob in the '68 Chevelle, Bill in his '81
Blazer Steve & Charlie in the Caddy, Andy parked next to him in his
deVille, Ron was out for the first time since his surgery with his
'53 Chevy, welcome back! Gary & Wanda weren't out in their '56 Chevy
"Remember When" they were in the '56 Chevy and near the end of the night
Al in his Model A then George in his Falcon rolled in, to mention a few.
It is always a good time with these Old Cars and good
friends at the "Square". As usual "Bites" and the Robertson Family
treated us very well. We will be Cruising here for the
next two weeks while we take a break from the "Thursday Nite Cruise-In"
at the Sonic so that Wal-Mart can have the whole parking lot for the
Holiday shopping season.
The 50/50 was $40, Steve Mc had the winning ticket in his
hand so he went home a little richer. Ron Adamson went home with the $20
"Cruise-A-Matic", next week we start over with $10 in the offering.
"Cruiser of the Week" went home with Ron Hood, cruiser #15, in his '53
Chevy.
Here are a few photos.
See you all "Out There!"
