What a day for a ride in the country! We had expected 8 cars to join in
to day, only 5 came out. Even with the diminished numbers we headed out
to the "Lake Marian Restaurant and Grocery Store" in Kenansville,
Florida.
10:00 was the meeting time at the Wal-Mart in Saint Cloud, Linda and I
rolled in with "Elvira" our '60 Falcon Ranchero, at about 9:45, Ed and
Evelyn Booher were already there with their '63 Corvair Convertible. in
fact Eve was shopping. Just a few minutes later Don & Judi Meyer pulled
in with their '02 Corvette roadster. We all chatted about the run and
Don mentioned his '48 Chevy Pickup that he is currently "Street Rodding",
we all can't wait to see that.
Just before 10:00 Tom and Edna Adams arrived with their tan over Gold
'65 Corvair 4 Door, this is one of their many "Cruisers". As we were
waiting on the rest of the "Cruisers" Jack and Betty called to say they
would not be joining us. Just after 10:00 Jeff and Tara Kough pulled up
with their '66 Corvair Corsa convertible. We all talked for a while
about a side trip to this "Scratch and Dent" place just south of
Kenansville that we thought we might stop by on the way back. 10:15 came
about so we started up the cars and headed for Canoe Creek Road to take
us "the back way" to Kenansville.
The next 32 miles we cruised at about 50 MPH enjoying the "Natural
Florida" scenery that was surrounding us on this old road. We were in
'formation" with Ed the "Corvair Tour Guide" and Evelyn in the lead car,
followed by our Ranchero then '65 4 door, Don and Judi in the 'Vette and
bringing up the rear was Jeff and Tara in their '66 Corsa. It was a very
nice ride with light traffic, of course there was that Manure Truck that
had to get by us in a big hurry to turn at the next side road. Always
one of those on the roads.
We arrived at the "Lake Marian Restaurant and Grocery Store" just a
little past 11:00. It was quite busy but just as we walked in a few
tables "Cleared" and we pushed them together. We all dined on their
famous "Swamp Cabbage" and a Turtle platter along with some 'gator.
Actually we did not try any of those delicacies but we all had a good
meal.
The topic for lunch was "where are we going next month?" well we are
going to Chisholm Park near Narcoose on the 22nd of May for a PicNic.
This will be a BYOB (as in beverage) your own meat and a dish to pass.
Ed is bringing his Chili and a fire will be provided. Tara is
coordinating this event and she can be contacted for details. This
should be a good outing. Check the Cruise-In News for further details.
After the meal we headed for the 3M Ranches "Tool Store" as we parked
our cars Judi asked if we had seen the Zebra in the field next to the
store, yes a Zebra grassing with other horses at the 3M ranch We all
spent a bit of time poking around the the store before we decided that
we would all stop by Ed and Evelyn's in Hollowpaw to see his their and
check out Lind's Corvair that Ed is working on.
The day ended after the "Tour" of Ed and Evelyn's half acre, we all
headed home.
Please join us on our next outing. It is always good to actually use
these "Cruisers" to tour.
