"National T-Bucket Alliance visits
Old Town"
As Linda and I left home, in our Ranchero, on our
voyage to Old Town we spent some time trying to figure out what the
bright light was outside. Wait, I radioed Steve that was behind us in
his Ranchero, to confirm my suspicions, it was the Sun, wait, how could
that be it was Saturday! How soon we forget that we live in "The
Sunshine State", after just a few weeks of rain. Hurricane Ophelia left
our shores over night for a little Sea Cruise and stopped sending her
bands of rain to us. At this time the verdict is out on whether or not
she will return to our shore or continue North.
As we made our way onto the "Brick Streets" after
having "Mr. Bill" register us taking the final turn onto "Trophy Row" we
noticed quite a row of "T-Buckets" to the North next to the Main Stage.
There must have been at least 30 of them in all colors and
configurations. This year was going to be a big turn out for them. Last
year with the Hurricanes plaguing us they did not have a very good
showing.
We made our way to Block 4 just past Florida Plaza
and parked in our regular spots in anticipation that some of our friends
from the
Florida Antique and Classic
Automobile Cruisers Association would be
joining us. In deed they did. Dan Z and Liz bought out the ole Henry J.
Ron Simons had his great '41 Packard. Bob Berube. had his Camaro and Ray
and Carm West had their Duce Coupe in block 4 as well.
As we went to get a bite to eat the cars kept rolling
in right up until 4:00. The line up at the gate before 5:00 was about
the longest I had seen it in while. More T-Buckets and a variety of
other cruisers were waiting for the gates to open.
Gregg and Emma stopped by for a bit. Gregg and I went
to check out a '68 Mustang "California Special". Only about 4,000 of
them were ever built and this was a great example of a well kept car. We
even found that "Mustang Mike" was out again tonight. Always good to see
him enjoying himself on a Saturday Nite.
As the evening came upon us even more of the
T-Buckets rolled in. I am not sure just how many were in attendance, I
just know there were a lot of them.
At 7:00 "The Company" started to play on the
main stage. Jim and Craig started to entertain the way they do on the
corner by the A&W drawing their regulars that come out to see them and a
large crowd of spectators.
The spectators must have been out in record numbers
as well, it was a sea of people checking out these great cars that come
out every Saturday Nite. "Mike T." was out of town this weekend so Joe
Rodhouse was the "CruiseMaster" tonight and Dave Dean was on the corner
as we all headed for "Kids Town".
At 8:30 more than 250 cars rolled onto "Deac Hundley
Blvd.", this is the 15 year spectacle that never disappoints the
spectators that watch all of this "Rolling History" pas by them.
Mike T. you missed a great Cruise. Thanks to your Staff it was another
Safe Cruise.
