"Sunshine State Cougar Club."
Cougars, Cougars, Cougars. It was a cool dry day,
very nice day to roll on out to Old Town, when Linda and I came in we
headed down the brick streets into a crowd of what seemed like 500 high
school students. It was as "Class Trip" that stopped by to Visit Old
Town. They had a great afternoon shopping and the busses rolled out
about 2:30. Once we were parked in our regular spot behind Black Hills
Minerals, we started out to make our rounds with the Newsletter and came
across the
Sunshine State Cougar Club occupying both sides of "Trophy Row"
in block 2. This is always an impressive display of the "Early" Cougars,
this event has been an annual here for several years now.
Of course this displaced many of the Regulars from
their normal parking spots so we had to actually search for a few of
them. I did see only a lonely "Drop your Top"er Bob and his T-Bird right
near the "Mike Kelley" stand.
John & Angel, Bill, Roger and Mark managed to get their
regular spot in block 3 but many of the others in the top end of block 3
were displaced as well as those from block 2. This cascaded down to our
little spot along "Trophy Row" and many "Snow Birds" are making their
way back to this 15 year plus event.
Mark, J and Gus had their cars out to Old Town the
last time before having to go back to the UK on Tuesday. It was good to
finally see Gus' Ford Pickup. Mark promises us a story of what they got
accomplished on this years tour. I am sure we will see them again next
year.
The "General Store" gang, was in place for the most
part, Bob had his Camaro and Ron had the '34 Street Rod. I saw Ray a
little later without Carm or their car. Across from them "Big Jim" had
his Pro-Street '67 Ranchero, "Hot Flash" but I didn't' see Norma.
Lake Whales dried out for the first time in quite a
while and The Hargo's got to bring out that Red '64 Malibu of theirs,
good to see them.
Neil and Elaine brought out the Red TR4 tonight for
the first time. They should be with us until the end of November.
Welcome back! Elaine will pilot this sports car in the Cruise tonight, we
all helped Neil to calm his nerves. Maybe next week it will be his
Austin Healey.
"Mustang Mike" and Caroline stopped out to visit with
everyone, "Ain't it Pretty" his '68 Mustang was at home, they got too
late of a start to get a good spot to park.
Our oldest daughter, Shannon and her husband Ken
brought out Markey and Alexis tonight for a visit and to Ride the Rides
and have some fun in "Kids Town". This is always a treat for the kids
and a chance for them to visit their Grandparents. Saturday Nite is not
just the Cruise at Old Town it is fun for the whole family.
When 8:30 rolled around the 314 cars started to stage
near the gate at "Kids Town" at 8:32, just after the National Anthem and
a few "Safety Instructions" from Mike Singer over Old Town Radio, the
parade of "Automotive History" started to move on to the bricks of "Deac
Hundley Blvd." in to the sea of fans that lined the boulevard and
sidewalks. We had 3 of our VIP's setting atop the tool box in our
vintage Ranchero waving to the cheering spectators, just ahead of us was
Ed & Evelyn's Corvair with our other VIP.
Once again, as a Cruiser, I would like to thank Mike
T. and the entire staff for a fun and Safe event, that is "The
Saturday Nite Cruise
