"More of those Free Rinses were provided!"
The BPOC show was to be at Old Town this weekend, it was postponed to
November 5th because of the possibility of Hurricane Wilma making
landfall today on the South West coast of Florida. We arrived about 1:30
to take some photos of this show and of course to "Cruise" our regular
Cruise. The fact that the show was to be today, many of the regulars
would wait until 5:00 to make their way to "Trophy Row" so the line up
of cars was very scarce at 4:00 when the gates closed for staff lunch.
Just about that time the skies opened up, this turned Florida Plaza into
a lake! The spectator parking was also flooded with water, not sure but
it must have been at least 1 to 2 inches in a very short time. It was
still raining at the gates opening and that kept many regulars from
coming in.
We had four of our "Regulars" in block 5 by 5:30 and a newly painted '51
Ford driven by Terry Makiekskie. Mike T. made the decision to open block
4 to spectator parking as the field was flooded. This was a little
strange to be parked in like that but it was our choice to stay where we
were, after all we had an overhang and the rain was not done for the
night.
The "Die Hards" that we always see where out tonight. Mark, Joe, Bill,
John and Roger where in their regular spot. Big John had a '59 Chevy
Impala parked by Cruiser Registration. The rain we were getting had more
to due with the big Low that was moving in to help steer Wilma away from
Central Florida than it did with Wilma herself.
Gary Hodge had his newly painted Black '66 Mustang out for the first
time tonight. Terry & Bonnie Delay, Cruisers for over 5 years, came out
their last time in a Red '66 Mustang, her first car by the way, before
moving to Iowa next week.
At Cruise time 71 cars made their way around "Kids Town" to run the
"Saturday Nite Cruise" one more time. This is an amazing number
considering all the rain that fell on us today. I was also surprised at
the amount of spectators that lined "Deac Hundley Blvd", it wasn't a
record crowd but it was still at least 3 people deep on each side. It is
these "Cruisers", the ones that bring out these "Stars", the Rolling
Automotive History that make this event the international spectacle that
it has become the last 15 years plus!
On to the flag winners
Tonight's random drawing winners that and received the coveted "Old Town Checkered Flag"
along with $25 cash, a case of Valvoline 20W50 Racing Oil and a drink from
the Tropical Breeze The $50 Cruise-O-Matic was not won so next week it is
up to $50. 1 of these 9 lucky
winners receive $100 Old Town Cash instead of the regular prize booty.
Congratulations to the Checkered Flag Winners!
