"GoVair Family Reunion"
We rolled into Old Town a bit early today, in fact we got there before
the gates opened at 1:00. The AutoZone Show was cut short by rain, ended
a little earlier than anticipated. Ed & Evelyn, Steve, Gary and we
caravanned form Saint Cloud. We waited for about 15 minutes on the
frontage road staged behind a dozen or so other cars that had arrived
before we did.
The 20 or so Corvairs that were going to participate in today's event,
that had been involved in the Family Reunion since yesterday at their
Host Hotel just off Florida Plaza
were to arrive to park in special parking at 3:00PM. Once the gates
opened we rolled down to our normal parking area behind "Black Hill's
Minerals". Tony and Sharon, Trevor, Virginia and Bill along with
others were going to join us later.
The General Store Gang, Bob, Ron, Dan and Liz, and Ray and Carm, that
just got back from Michigan, were in place before 5:00.
Old Town radio was heard though out, with Mike Singer at the Mic. "The
Dukes" set up on their corner by the A&W before 7:00, The "3-D Band"
rocked the main stage to the delight of the "Old Town Dancers."
It is Florida, so yes, Mike T. once again arranged for a few free
"Rinses" before the night was over. This did not really dampen the
spirits of the Cruisers that we lined along "Trophy Row" waiting to
Cruise Deac Hundley Blvd. at 8:30 this evening to what seemed to be yet
another record crowd of spectators. Other than a few Cruisers that
should know better than to "Cut In" while staging for the event, the
night was very well coordinated by Mike T., Joe R., Mr. Bill, Lisa and
the rest of the Old Town Cruise Staff.
The trip down the West side of Deac Hundley Blvd. was lead by the
"Cruiser of the Month" followed by convertibles filled with "Little
Princesses", then 29 Corvairs that represented almost every year and
model of this great bit of "Rolling American History". Then the rest of
the 234 cars that came out today. As many time that we have "Cruised" it
is still the same thrill to see the amazement in the eyes of the crowd
to see all of the variety of cars and trucks participating in this 15
year tradition, The "Saturday Nite Cruise®"
Bill Zinssar is doing well after
heart surgery last week, thanks to John Cain for passing this
information on to me. Bob Melendy stopped to see him this morning, he is
hoping to get set free early next week. Get well Bill and lets see you
and that black Falcon back on “Trophy Row”!
Thank you again for a Great and Safe day at Old Town!
