November 19th
Can you believe it? Another Tropical Storm may hit
the shores of South Florida this weekend! A few little "Sprinkles" and a
"Free Rinse", about 2:30 and the last NASCAR Race down in Homestead this
Sunday, we all thought would make tonight's Cruise a little smaller than
normal.
Linda and I arrived at about 1:45 "Trophy Row" was
just starting to get populated. Ben Franklin with his '30 Ford Street
Rod with Coke trailer in tow was where it usually is. Many others were
in spots that were very familiar. Bill Z. had his Falcon back out for
the first time since his surgery, parked right with many of the "Red
Line Rodders", welcome back! Tom, from the "Drop your Top Gang", said
that the rain kept Bob and his T-Bird away today.
After the rain it took a little while for many more
cruisers to start rolling in. Shortly before 3:00 Tony & Sharon joined
us behind the "Black Hills Minerals" in block 4, Terry rolled in with
his '51 Ford, Mike & Carol came right after with the '54 Hudson, then
Trevor the "Cruising Dog" rode in with Bill & Virginia in the '29
Mercedes. That was to be it for "Our Bunch" until after dinner.
Just before 4:00 eight of us went up to "Flippers
Pizza", when we got there, Joe, Kay and Ozzie "The Cruising Dog" moved
one table over so that we could all set together "Alfresco". After a
great meal and the watching of the 5:00PM gate drop we headed back to
our cars. Some went down "Trophy Row", Tony, Sharon, Linda and I went
down the East Side of "Deac Hundley Blvd." for a little shopping in the
Great Shops that are the "Other Attraction" of Old Town. This is a
diverse bunch of stores and Boutiques. Of course the shopping trip ended
up at the "Old Town General Store".
After we got back to the cars, Neil had come in
while we were eating with his '62 Austin Healey. Only 1 more week for
him before it is back to England. The arriving Cruisers had already
filled the four blocks and was now parking behind the Roller coaster and
"Kids Town". I guess we were wrong on the car count tonight.
"Viva" went on stage at 7:00PM, Mike Singer was
entertaining us with his mix of Oldies on Old Town Radio. It is always
nice to hear the "Dukes"
recording of "Old
Town Saturday Nite" playing over the speakers.
At 8:30PM, nearly 350 cars rolled around the corner
at "Kids Town" on to "Deac Hundley Blvd" to a cheering crowd of
spectators for one more running of this "International Tradition" for
more than 15 years, the "Saturday Nite Cruise©".
Another great night with good friends at Old Town,
