August 13th

What a day, it was hot, the rain looked as though it might move in on us. It even clouded up a few times. All it really did was cool it off a bit. Just one year ago today "Charley" came to visit the "Friday Night Cruise" along with all of the havoc he brought to us.

Old Town radio played on the streets, the "El Camino Fiesta II" was taking place along the East side of Deac Hundley Blvd. The crowd of spectators started to build from 1:00 on. "Rusty Romero" was due on the main stage at 7:00. The day was set for the 15 year plus tradition, right here at Old Town. "The Saturday Nite Cruise" always begins early in the day as a great "Car Show" on "Trophy Row" and culminates at 8:30 with a parade of all the cars seen during they day.

Jim and Craig "daDukes" were at their corner by the A&W adding even more entertainment for the "Cruisers" and spectators alike.

"Elvira" our '60 Ranchero is scheduled for a "Clutch Transplant" on Sunday so she did not hit the bricks, again. I hit the bricks, well sort of. I was asked to help out a Cruise time with audience control so I walked up boulevard with "Mr. Bill" and Lee, in front of the "Cruiser of the Month" to get the spectators behind the lines and standing up. I think every Cruiser should volunteer at least once to see what this "Cruise Staff" does for us and the safety of all. This type of thing comes natural to me because of the years I spent working in a local theme park in attractions and parking. The best part was that I got to wave back at all my fellow "Cruisers" as they came off the street to make their way back to the main stage.

The spectators once again got to view nearly 200 vehicles drive past them in this weekly spectacle.

On to tonight's flag winners....

Tonight's random drawing winners that and received the coveted "Old Town Checkered Flag" along with $25 cash, a case of Valvoline 20W50 Racing Oil and a drink from the Tropical Breeze The $50 Cruise-O-Matic was not won so next week it is up to $50. 1 of these 9 lucky winners receive $100 Old Town Cash instead of the regular prize booty.

Congratulations to the Checkered Flag Winners!
