April 30th

The weatherman threatened us with a chance of rain. Well he was wrong, at least for today. Tomorrow will be a different story. We arrived later than our usual 1:30, Linda and I had spent the morning and the early afternoon with the "Orlando Amateur Radio Club" at the annual picnic at Fleet Peeples Park in the North East side of Orlando near the old Navy base.

We had been in contact with Steve McCullough via ham radio, and coordinated a rendezvous with him and Ed "The Corvair Tour Guide". Our 3 cars entered Old Town just a few minutes before the gates closed at 4:00 for the Staff to lunch.

We went down to block 4 (our secondary regular parking spot) and had not been there very long when Mike Weiss joined us with is '54 Hudson then Jack and Betty joined in with their '64 Corvair.

There were lots of Girl Scouts in Old Town and they were to be the V.I.P. following the "Cruiser of the Month" leading the parade. Old Town was bustling with large crowd of spectators forming to view this almost 15 year old tradition, "The Saturday Nite Cruise® at 8:30. Old Town radio was coming through the towns speakers entertaining all in earshot.

7:00 brought the "T-Birds" to the main stage on "Trophy Row" The "Dukes of Harmony" set up to a massive crowd by the A&W

At 8:30 the 260 cars rolled onto Deac Hundley Blvd. the crowed lined up at least 4 deep on both sides cheered the Cruisers on, we even had riders in the back of the old Ranchero, Gregg and Emma Nelson, Gregg write the Friday Nite report for SBCNO.

That is it for tonight! Thanks for stopping by.
