This was it! The Big Day! The Saturday Nite Cruise was to Celebrate it's
14th Anniversary! The weather man predicted rain all weekend. That did
not stop 700 Cruisers from coming out to this fantastic event.
Cruisers started to arrive as early as Tuesday for
this event. Many were in line to register early Friday Morning. We got
there about 9:00 AM and paraded onto Trophy row. It took about 30
minutes for the 112 cars in front of us to get parked.
Early afternoon showers had us drying off the cars
just after Lunch. This was to be the case a few more times today but it
did not dampen the sprit of the Cruisers all ready in place. It did slow
down the new arrivals for a few hours, just enough to give the staff a
well deserved break. Cruise Master Mike T and his staff did a great job
getting this event going even with the rainy weather.
All of the Shirts - Hats as well as all of the
other commemorative items were on sale right by the clock.
Mike Singer was entertaining the crowd over the Old
Town PA System and On Property Radio Station like he has for so many
years. Way back to the "Auto-Fest" of the late '80's
The "Dukes
of Harmony" hit the stage at 3:00 PM wearing the Official T-Shirt of
the 14th Anniversary. The rocked the crowd with some of their great
Acappella and accompanied Doo Wop songs. Marilyn Monroe was Shooting of
Confetti cannons - Tossing out Beaded necklaces as well as walking
around the streets of Old Town meeting an greeting the Cruisers as well
as the spectators.
It was a fantastic time for all the ventured
into Old Town this day. At 7:00 PM "Dukes
of Harmony" made a change of costume and went on stage with the "Rockin'
Knights" and continued to Rock the place right until 11:00!
The Skies opened up right after the national
anthem. This still did not stop the Cruisers from giving a good show.
Marilyn Monroe was the "Grand Marshal" in a 1947 Cadillac Convertible
followed by the "Dukes
of Harmony" in convertibles provided by the "Galaxie Club" To bad
the rain had started. Almost all of the soft tops were up as the rain
was now heavy. However long time cruisers and previous Cruisers of the
Month Gary and Kathy still had the top down on that red Fairlane. Jack
and Donna had a golf Umbrella up while the navigated the bricks with the
beautiful Blue Corbra they bring.
The Closing ceremonies brought much deserved
accolades to the "Cruise" staff and the "Cruise Master" Mike T for yet
another Year for this long running tribute to the rolling history of the
beloved automobile and the "Family" of people that Cruise them.
Many prizes and gifts were handed out from random
drawings and a grand prize of a Computer was awarded. All in all a
"Don't Miss" event if you happen to be lucky enough to be here in
Central Florida next year for the anticipated 15th Anniversary or just
any Saturday Nite "Rain or Shine" as hundreds of cars hit "Deac Hundley"
Boulevard every Saturday Nite at 8:30.
Sorry it took me this long to get all of the photos posted. All 122 of
them are here now. Enjoy.
