At the
National Parts Depot's 10th Annual Ford and Mustang Roundup.
Silver Springs Theme park near Ocala, Florida.
Friday the 8th many of the members of
F.O.R.D., headed for
the event. Departing the area from several places and at different times.
Steve, Cheryl, Linda and I left at 2:00PM from Kissimmee. Bill, Jeanne,
Jamie, Dick, Marie, James and Norma left a little later with the '66
Pro-Street Ranchero on the trailer. (it was raining, so we all thought it
would be safer that way.) Don and Martha left from the Windermere area.
Scott would be coming in from Orange City and Fred from Edgewater.
Jeanne had to change a tire that blew on the trailer that was handling the
'66 Pro-Street. There were no damages caused to anything other than the
tire. So all made it to the event.
Our earlier
trip went without incident, one pit stop on the way up, hit rain just
outside of Ocala. The weather man promised a cold but sunny day for
Saturday. After we arrived in Ocala the rains were torrential overnight.
The temperatures plummeted! Our room was 9 miles away from the rest of the
club, we met at 7:00AM at the Sun Plaza.
After figuring out that the they had changed the entrance for registration
(and a short detour thru the Holiday In parking lot) the club mad it's way
to Silver Springs Park, Scott was there waiting for us.
All but Dick made it to the "Club" parking area, Fred
pulled in a few minutes later with the "lil" Ranchero. All of us fighting
the cold getting our cars "just right" for the show we remained optimistic
that the Sun would shine by noon. At about 8:30 we took the short walk to
the restaurant next to the Sun Plaza, the 18 of us had a great all you can
eat buffet and hoped for that Sun to come out.
Arriving
back at Silver Springs, just as the Park opened, we all headed out to
check out the great Mustangs and other Fords that were displayed. Some
wandered to the Attractions that were there for us to enjoy. Set for a
great day of old cars and good friends. The only problem was that the
weather was not going to co operate! Instead of the Sun coming out, it got
colder and colder, the wind started to pickup. The lucky member that were
staying with in walking distance went to their rooms at the motel. Steve,
Cheryl, Linda and I ran the engines in our cars a few times, tried again
to look at more of the great cars on display, walked thru any building
that had heat! We did manage to take a trip on the "Glass Bottom" boats
the Silver Springs is so well known for. It was warmer than setting in the
car. My hopes of hundreds of photos was diminishing. I
did get some great shots and Linda and I visited with Joe Hanson, a
regular cruiser at "The
Saint Cloud Thursday Nite Cruise-In",
he and his beautiful Mustang Cobra were
invited to be "On Stage" at the event.
Steve,
Cheryl, Linda and I decided to cut our two day adventure down to one. "If
it's not 50 degrees and Sunshine at 8:00, we are just headed for home!"
both Steve and I commented to the rest of the Club Members. Well, it was
not 50 degrees, it was more like 29, however the Sun was out! As I write
this at 3:00PM it still has not gotten above 45 degrees some 8 miles to
the south of Silver Springs! I will get the rest of the report form Don or
Jeanne on Thursday nite. Even thought we froze, we are
looking forward to next year!
